Senior Public Relations Consultant/London/12 Months Contract/500 to 625 GBP (Per Day)

Purpose

To define and lead the organisations media relations strategy and promote its investment business and overall proposition in the external market.

Understand the organisations corporate ambitions in the DB, DC and retail markets and position the business as a leader as the industry evolves, particularly in the direct to consumer market.

Work closely with senior management and other internal stakeholders to articulate our long-term vision and advise and develop corporate and investment messages to support business objectives.

Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on PR related issues.

Principal accountabilities

  • Media Strategy: Define and develop external media strategy for positioning the institutional, DC, retail and direct to consumer capabilities. Emphasise digital channels, particularly for the direct to consumer market.
  • Voice: Work with the marketing team, and specifically investment communications team, as well as senior stakeholders to build an narrative' that would be the voice of the investment business for the wider Group.
  • Market/Competitor analysis: Maintain a strong understanding of the investment markets in which operates, the competitive positioning, risks and threats and use this knowledge to develop the overall media strategy and messaging. Provide insight, analysis and counsel to the senior management team as well as the wider marketing team.
  • Media and PR agency relationships: Review the overall relationship that the organisation has with its PR, media training and media monitoring agencies, including identifying opportunities for cross-border and international media activity. Oversee selection and management of agencies.
  • Develop key messages: Develop key messages for the institutional, DC/workplace savings, retail and direct to consumer marketplace to drive our reputation and increase awareness, using both traditional and social media channels.
  • Crisis management: Anticipate and identify issues that may have an impact on the business to safeguard the organisations reputation through crisis and strategic communications planning. Respond quickly to a crisis, escalating appropriately and advising the business on reputation risk, guiding and educating the business to become more media savvy. Work through scenario and risk planning, aligning with the wider Group approach.
  • Strong governance: Establish strong processes, procedures and quality control to ensure minimum financial and reputational risk to firm. Monitor industry and regulatory changes impacting team activities and ensure measures are put in place to address these.

    Qualifications

    Technical/Professional Qualifications

    BA/BS in English, Economics, Finance or Marketing.

    Experience

    At least 7 years' experience in a PR/media relations role with an asset management company, or an agency serving the investment industry

    Experience of managing media strategies for a high-profile or reputation-focused organisation

    Specialist knowledge/skills

    Strong relationships with key national and trade media contacts (including UK personal finance press)

    Detailed knowledge and understanding of managing PR planning and process approaches to building a more confident and media-friendly business environment. Aligning the PR approach with that of the marketing and media planning team, building confidence in the articulation of the media strategy focused on insight, newsflow and long term investment management themes.

    Demonstrate the value of clearly defined UK media relations, including ability to handle highly sensitive issues with journalists

    Exceptional writing and editing skills and ability to develop messages for a variety of audiences

    Competence/Characteristics

    - Ability to work closely with CEO and other senior executives to help develop and deliver strategic PR plans aligned with business priorities.

    -Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on PR related issues.

    - Forge strong connections and relationships across various parts of the group to ensure L&G and other stakeholders are informed about our media plans and to coordinate responses and plans where necessary.

    - Shaping and promoting a comprehensive external communications/PR strategy to influence reputational, regulatory and brand positioning.

    - Ability to take ownership of and liaise and work effectively across Marketing and Distribution to deliver against agreed PR plans and strategies.

    - Strong written and verbal skills.

    - Ability to meet tight deadlines and react to last minute requests often with no prior warning.

    - Ability to work with a range of stakeholders across the business at different levels, to develop and execute plans - often having to resolve conflicts between various groups of stakeholders.

    - Acting as a member of the wider Communications and Marketing function - being an ambassador for the work we do, and a role model for our culture and values.
