Content Designer/Blackpool/3 months Contract/300 to 361 GBP (Per Day)

IR35 Status. The client has stated that this role is Out of Scope of the new off pay-role worker legislation.

Content Designer

As a content designer you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team. You'll work alongside other de-signers, Front End developers, researchers and software engineers.

You'll deliver world-class services designed for the people who use them, in line with the government's Digital Service Standard.

Working on the end-to-end journey, you'll make sure that a user can complete their goal and that the service meets the policy intent.

This may involve creating or changing transactions, products and content. It could include working on digital and non-digital channels provided by different parts of government. You might also work on administrative or Back End' systems and processes.

This role is about making sure the most appropriate content is shown to the user in the right place and in the best format.

As a content designer you will:

  • specialise in designing content for digital services
  • understand the web, technology and people
  • make government services and information simpler, clearer and faster for the people who use them
  • work with different types of content across digital and non-digital services

General Responsibilities

As a content designer you will:

  • understand user needs and design services that meet them
  • create new content and iteratively improve existing content for products and services across digital and offline channels
  • use research, data and expert advice to make sure content is accurate, useful and timely
  • build relationships and work closely with policy, legal and communications colleagues to make sure content is accurate and consistent across all channels
  • use the style guide and your own knowledge and experience to make sure content is high quality
  • take part in user research sessions
  • track how well content performs in a service
  • work with product owners, other designers, user researchers, business analysts and Front End developers to turn concepts into user-centred services
  • take responsibility for creating and keeping up a positive and collaborative working environment
  • contribute to building a digital culture in the department
  • play an active part in the department's product design community

Essential Skills

You should:

  • have relevant industry experience of working at pace in an agile environment and be able to work from a digital perspective
  • have exemplary spelling and grammar and be able to write and edit using a style guide and plain English
  • be able to take a user-centred approach to content design and be able to explain design decisions and other ideas in a way that other people understand, and be able to put forward the case for content design to senior stakeholders and product owners
  • know how to plan user research and be able to use data and user research to inform content design decisions
  • have experience of handling the constructive criticism of your work and have experience of constructively reviewing other people's work
  • have experience of understanding how your work fits into the wider context of the team and department

Desirable

Ideally, you'll also:

  • have an English language or design-related degree
  • be able to share content ideas quickly through sketching or prototyping
