We are looking to recruit an experienced User Researcher to join our team on a new discovery project due to start on the 12th February. Our client is a government organisation and you'll be required to be onsite 4 days a week, and one working remotely. This project is based in Newcastle.

The role

  • The User Researcher candidate will be a passionate advocate of user needs based design, design thinking and service design.
  • You will conduct research and generate new and useful insight to shape the development of new digital services while maintaining the focus on user needs.
  • Working as part of a wider research team on different project deliveries, you will distill and share your insights to inform the work of your colleagues.
  • You'll be working in multidisciplinary Agile teams alongside delivery managers, user researchers, UX and product specialists, to deliver word-class, user-centred services in truly collaborative environments.

User Researcher - skills and experience required:

Essential:

  • Proven record in Digital Research
  • Proven experience following GDS guidelines
  • Proven experience of creating research strategies/approaches
  • Full understanding and demonstrable experience of research methodologies.
  • Qualitative: RITE, usability testing, facilitating workshops and contextual enquiry.
  • Quantitative: usability metrics.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to quickly develop recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative evidence
  • Confident in explaining user needs and acting as a persuasive advocate for those needs both within the team and the department at large
  • Demonstrable knowledge, experience in and passion for user centred design practices
  • Experience across web content, tools and transactional services, especially those with complex user journeys (involving development of a logical sequence of steps to complete transactions)
  • Comfortable working with data, from gathering and analysis through to design and presentation
  • Comfortable in the capacity of mentor for other user researchers

Desirable

  • Degree in HCI/Usability/Cognitive Psychology/Market Research or related field
  • Experience of working in an agile development environment with designers, business analysts and developers to create new digital products and services
  • Demonstrated understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phases
  • Experience of identifying user needs of users with accessibility requirements.

What you'll get in return

This a contract opportunity with a daily rate between £500-£550 per day. Outside IR35.
