Summary
Designers, Front End developers, researchers, and software engineers will collaborate with you as a Senior Service Designer. You'll meet the government's Digital Service Standard while delivering services of the highest quality and catered to the specific needs of your customers.
To create the end-to-end journey for customers, service designers work with policy experts, business owners, and other product team members. This includes developing new transactions, goods, and content for use across digital and offline channels supplied by different government agencies.
Your confidence will come from knowing that you can keep an eye on the broad picture while still being willing to put in the work necessary to finish a prototype when the time comes.
Key Responsibilities:
Understand user needs and design services that meet them
Support discussions at a senior departmental level
Design user-centred solutions and transaction flows
Support in a Interaction Design capacity when needed
Create and rapidly iterate prototypes to help the wider team learn about user needs for different scenarios or tasks
Work with product owners, other designers, user researchers, business analysts and Front End developers to turn concepts into user-centred services
Make sure the design of services is consistent internally and with the rest of GOV.UK
Take responsibility for creating and keeping up a positive and collaborative working environment
Help promote best practice
Share your specialist knowledge and experience with others in the team
Share work and ideas inside and outside the department for example by representing the DWP Digital design community at events
Contribute to building a digital culture in the Department
Play an active part in the department's Product Design community
Key Qualities:
2-3 years as a service designer or systems thinker.
Experience collaborating and involving users in design and research.
Ability to apply design research approaches such as user journeys, service mapping, prototyping to turn research findings into opportunities and solutions for service users.
Ability to design interactive solutions for products that enable services
A variety of ways and tools to demonstrate the potential for improving specific service components and touchpoints.
Ability to connect design solutions with practical implementation is a plus.
People-cantered policies, products, and services for social effect are important to this viewpoint.
Work in technical teams in complicated contexts
Collaborate on designs with a software engineer
Qualifications
Have a degree in product, interface, or UX design.
