User Researcher - Must be SC Cleared

Location: London/Remote

5-6 months Contract

Pay - £650 via Umbrella Company

As a user researcher you will devise and apply appropriate research strategies to generate focused insights to inform service development. You will work closely with designers, business analysts and software developers to turn user research data into actionable insights and user stories that influence product/service direction and prototype development.

As a User Researcher you will:

  • Help the team understand the value of User Research and ensure that they feel a shared ownership of the research output
  • Work with the team Service/Product Managers to devise appropriate research strategies to generate focused insights they need for to inform service development
  • Develop user recruitment briefs with due consideration for all types of users including those who experience barriers to using your service
  • Plan, design and conduct research to test new service ideas (including interviews to probe context and needs, user requirements gathering, early stage concept and prototype testing, guerrilla research and usability testing sessions)
  • Design, script and analyse quantitative surveys
  • Manage qualitative/quantitative research projects such as proposition development, visual identity and customer experience mapping
  • Present findings, recommendations and customer insights to senior decision makers
  • Help deliver a consistent user experience across a broad range of digital products and services
  • Contribute to the continuous development and enhancement of products and services
  • Mentor and/or line manage junior user researchers where necessary
  • Creation of user stories for the project to cross reference against the business requirements (to be provided by the Buyer).
  • Design user journey maps, identifying where users need to consume content
  • Lead and schedule research activities, recording and transcribing as relevant, and plan observation the sessions
  • Consider insights and analyse research, considering the needs of users and stakeholders who must work within secure environments
  • Create reporting materials and visualisations

You will have extensive knowledge and proven experience of:

  • Human Factors and User Centred Design
  • Working in an iterative development environment
  • Planning research
  • Solid knowledge of research ethics
  • Knowledge of GDPR and secure storage of users' personal data
  • Able to select the appropriate method for the context
  • Able to judge if research is reliable and robust
  • Analysing research
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Quickly prioritise the main issues based on evidence
  • Review analytical data to identify users' behaviours and areas of concern
  • Communicating and collaborating
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Quickly develop strong working relationships in high pressure environments
  • Explain user needs to decision makers
  • Be a persuasive advocate for users, including those with accessibility requirements or potential barriers
  • Work with the team on how best to address the issues found
  • Succinctly present key findings in clear and memorable ways

Desirable skills and experience
Ideally you would also have experience of:

  • Acting as a mentor for other user researcher(s)
  • Developing design personas
  • Experience of research in government contexts
  • Experience of GDS assurance events
  • Working in an agile development environment with designers, business analysts and developers to create new digital products and services
