The Sr. Operations Engineer is involved at the inception of project initiatives as a voice and guiding light for the Broadcast Operations team While the diligent operations staff focuses on meeting our Customer Promise 24x7x365, the Operations Strategy team will be partnering with our Engineering teams to ensure new products & services have the right ingredients for operational success The role of the Sr. Operations Engineer will be to evaluate the impact new technologies, architectures, and workflows associated with new initiatives, have on our current operational model. It is expected the Operations Strategy team will work closely with the operations teams to provide high-level overviews, gather input/feedback on operational requirements, and reach alignment on what project success means to Operations.

Location: El Segundo, CA

Duration: 6 months +

Start: 2 weeks

Responsibilities

  • As directed, engage in project initiatives by critically analysing scope, business requirements, system specifications, and architecture diagrams to assess operational impacts and requirements.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations teams to socialize new initiatives and collect project specific requirements that get fed forward into overall project requirements.
  • Document project specific requirements based on analysis and/or operations provided input and have them fed into the project.
  • Manage the continued development of our operational requirements as a baseline for all new project specifications.
  • Evaluate project compliance with existing operational requirements and drive a discussion that either leads to an agreement or a documented waiver.
  • Create and/or direct others to create operational documentation (run-books, owner manuals, etc.).
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of the operational environment inclusive of technology, workfiow, nomenclature, vocabulary, organizational structure, roles & responsibilities, and policies & practices.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to all team members. Act as a mentor and role model for other team members.
  • Stay abreast and well versed with industry technology trends ensuring skills remain current.
  • Generate innovative ideas that are operationally sound yet progressive and foster creativity on projects.
  • Challenge the status quo wisely taking reasonable risks while keeping the company's best interests in mind.
  • Communicate effectively using sound judgment in making decisions, and interacting with a broad range of technical and non-technical audiences. This includes the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group including team members, managers, subject matter experts, and executives.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with stakeholders, peers, vendors, and throughout the organization, including company leadership and executives.
  • Work consistently professionally, reliably and objectively. Accept ownership for your piece of work.
  • Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science/Engineering, related degree, or strong comparable experience.
  • +7 years professional experience operating in large-scale technology environments; diverse background in architecture & operations roles highly desired.
  • Ideal candidates will have blended experience in the following areas applying skills in a systems design role with a proven track record of success:
    • Broadcast technologies & standards (RF, automation, ad insertion, MPEG, H.264, DRM).
    • Telecommunication technologies & standards (WAN/LAN, Internet routing, OSI, load balancing).
    • IT technology & standards (cloud computing, virtualization, Middleware, system/storage technologies).
  • Industry standards, models, & best practices (ISO 9000, IEEE, CMMI, IETF, ITIL, SCRUM).
  • Adept at reading, interpreting, and writing technical specification documents.
  • Experience in conducting analysis of complex systems and identifying operational reality gaps is a definite advantage.
