Description

I have an urgent vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer for a 12 month contract in Worcestershire. Rate is £35-£40 per hour and you must be willing to undergo and SC clearance process unless cleared already.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work as part of a team on projects spanning design, demonstration, development, production and customer support.

* Managing design evolution to meet customer requirements
* Approving drawings
* Approving production processes
* Approving technical documentation
* Leading technical investigations
* Design for manufacture techniques
* Demonstrating compliance with customer requirements
* Specifying and reviewing structural, thermal and ballistic analyses
* Specifying, monitoring and reporting rocket motor trials
* Leading trials readiness reviews
* Report and specification writing
* Technical presentations
* Leading formal design and production process reviews
* Design and production certification
* Customer technical interface
* Constructing and managing compliance matrices

These responsibilities require close liaison with internal specialists in CAD design, stress analysis, thermal analysis, ballistic analysis, solid propellant chemist, materials, trials, production engineering and project management.

The system incorporates many diverse scientific and engineering principles. The structure must be lightweight yet able to resist the extreme pressures and temperatures associated with combustion. The operational environments are equally severe combining extremes of temperature, mechanical vibration and shock. Although specialist engineers are on hand, this role offers a unique and stimulating opportunity for engineers willing and able to broaden their knowledge and experience.

Requirements

Candidates shall have a formal engineering qualification (HNC, HND or degree) in mechanical, aeronautical or related engineering discipline and should have at least five years experience in a related environment.

Key attributes include the following:

* A sound understanding of engineering (mathematics, stressing, fluids, materials (metals and polymers) and manufacturing techniques).
* An interest and aptitude in both the theory and practical aspects of engineering.
* An ability to assimilate and evaluate technical information from a wide range of disciplines.
* An ability to present complex problems clearly and logically to other specialist and non specialist engineers.
* An ability to communicate and work effectively with other technical specialists.
* A good understanding of 'Design to Cost' and 'Design for Manufacture'.
* An ability to work to customer requirements and timescales.
* Attention to detail.
* High level of report writing skills.
* High competency in the use of Microsoft office tools.
* Self motivated and independent working skills.
* Excellent understanding of BS 8888 and/or BS 308.
* Good understanding of defence standards such as Def Stan 07-85 and working for the MoD
