Safety Engineer (Fire Analysis) - Fire Risk Assessment, Fire Safety Case, Fire Safety, ALARP

A Safety Engineer (Fire Analysis) with Fire Risk Assessment, Fire Safety Case, and Fire Safety skills/experience is required to work on a twelve month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Cumbria.

Overview of the Safety Engineer contract role

  • Produce Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Case documentation
  • Support Computational Fluid Dynamic fire modelling in terms of defining design basis fires
  • Support to fire safety systems designers in terms of their selection and performance
  • Undertake analysis to support the development of fire safety systems (fire detection, fire barriers and firefighting)
  • Organise and attend fire safety optioneering workshops
  • Review of Technical Specifications and Suppliers responses
  • Support and attend Decision Panels and System Reviews (relevant to fire safety)
  • Authoring of fire safety reports in support of the Safety Case
  • Attendance at design team meetings
  • To undertake any other duties required of the Fire Safety SIT in order to deliver to plan

Key skills required for the Safety Engineer

  • Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Case Documentation
  • Production of minutes/outputs from fire safety activities/ALARP workshops
  • Fire Safety Support at Working Groups
  • ALARP Assessments and Documentation

The Individual

  • Fire engineering experience (ideally in the Marine, Oil and Gas or Nuclear Industries)
  • Fire safety report authoring experience
  • Fire systems (detection and firefighting) knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Quality/Safety Management Systems
  • A good understanding of process development and design philosophies
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good management, co-ordination and organisational skills
  • Skilled in the use of standard Microsoft packages and specialist packages as required

The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District
