Description
MANUFACTURING ENGINEER- PROJECTSPosition Description and Responsibilities Project engineers oversee development stages for a wide range of projects. A project engineer's job is to apply knowledge in engineering and project management and provide leadership to Process Technicians to deliver Project key deliverable and final project objectives (FPO). Perform tasks such as scheduling and resource forecasting, develop and make sure that action plans are progressing as planned and fit into overall Project goals. Will have a prime role with respect to equipment and process safety ensuring J&J standards are met or exceeded at all times. Acts as an advocate for continuous improvement activities using statistical techniques, Lean manufacturing tools, Six Sigma, design experimentation for process and equipment, to achieve targets and cost savings. Troubleshoot lead on new equipment. Serve as a resource to other engineering disciplines in the Project.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
Project Management
- Technical support for manufacturing:
- Utilise Lean Manufacturing tools, Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Methodical approach to problem solving
- Training and mentoring as well as developing and improving planned maintenance regimes
- Train maintenance engineers on planned maintenance regimes
- Improve fault diagnosis skills within engineering
- Procurement from Quotation to delivery of Project equipment Dealing with equipment suppliers and service providers as well as developing support relationships with external sources such as:
- Equipment suppliers
- Service suppliers
- Spare Suppliers
- Professional bodies Upgrade existing equipment to improve
- Quality
- Throughput
- Work flow
- Yield
Sub contract if/when necessary to:
- Support change control
- Support introduction of change
- Support new product and process introduction:
- Be aware of impact of new products on manufacturing equipment assess and support
- Be aware of quality elements of new products and assess their impact on current manufacturing process's equipment
Other Skills, Experience and Education
- Project engineers must have a strong mechanical aptitude and good knowledge of materials, economics, science, mathematics, engineering, and relevant laws and legal regulations.
- Excellent communication skills are essential, as project engineers are responsible not only for interpreting stakeholder needs, but also for training junior engineers and other team members, and coordinating several groups of people with different sets of skills.
- Project management skills, decision-making ability, leadership and organizational skills are important because project engineers manage both the teams working on the Project and coordinate third party contractors. It is important that they are able to explain project plans clearly
