Senior Manager Model Validation / London / £Competitive

A well know bank is looking for a Senior Manager to join their validation team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring effective independent validation of the Bank's Risk Models
  • Supporting effective implementation of Risk Model governance across the Bank in line with all regulatory requirements
  • Providing appropriate oversight of all model developments and deployments across all business functions in line with requirements of a Credit Risk Control Unit (as described within Capital Regulatory Requirements)
  • Establishing an independent programme of annual validation of IRB models and other Financial Models as required by the Bank
  • Ensuring the provision of Regulatory Horizon Scanning for all aspects of Capital Requirements Directive and Capital Regulatory Requirements compliance
  • Managing external validation partners to ensure adequate resources and that all contractual SLAs are met
  • Acting as an independent challenger of model risk and perpetuating a culture of best model practice throughout the institution
  • Working with Risk Models Team to achieve best practice


Key Skills and Experience
  • In-depth, up-to-date knowledge of UK and European banking regulations as they affect models and rating systems
  • Significant experience of Risk Model development techniques and appropriateness of Risk Model methodologies with the credibility to engage in discussion with internal and external contacts
  • Expert knowledge of model risk governance and its impact on capital requirements: model risk appetite; model risk strategy; model risk management; model validation
  • Ability to drive performance and transformation required for risk model validation
  • Ability to derive new ideas and use abstract thinking to contribute to model risk management and the communication skills to articulate supporting arguments at all levels
  • Ability to present effectively at major meetings/conferences and to communicate the most complex technical/specialist ideas effectively to all audiences

  • Strong mathematical and statistical analysis skills at degree level
  • Excellent leadership, planning and organisation skills
  • Excellent influencing and persuasiveness skills
  • Very strong report writing, presentation and delivery skills
  • Experience of dealing with the PRA (and FCA) including managing their expectations
  • Very strong experience of building and validating retail and corporate banking risk rating systems
  • Experience of model governance and provision of documentation to Board level
