PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this position is to perform professional work in the Mechanical Engineering discipline to support the design and development of the Gen2 DLAN solution.
The incumbent will be expected to hold delegated Design Authority for Mechanical Engineering and be responsible for the technical integrity of the Gen2 DLAN product in that discipline.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Perform mechanical engineering design tasks and necessary analysis to support the design and development of the Gen2 DLAN physical infrastructure.
  • Work independently, and as part of a team, to ensure that design products comply with the technical requirements of the task and are performed within the allocated cost and schedule
  • Plan operations and or processes required to complete allocated design tasks, including estimation of requirements of staffing, material costs and quantities.
  • Manage the drawing pack and CAD models
  • Comply with, and ensure compliance, of all relevant Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislative requirements, policies, procedures and framework with the intent of preventing or minimising accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors and/or the environment. Adopt a pro-active and preventative approach to OH&S and risk management issues whilst serving as a role model to all employees by demonstrating full support of clients occupational health, safety and environmental programs.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of staff via staff meetings, written communications and one-on-one communication. Interact and work with management/employees to promote teamwork.
  • Understand technical, commercial and legal implications of actions and respond accordingly
  • Ensure knowledge of quality concepts, standards, systems and programs and their importance to the organisations success.
  • Understand all technical aspects of the job to achieve best results.
  • Monitor quality of work.
  • Ensure knowledge is passed on to others in order to assist individuals in raising their level of competence.

ANALYSIS AND JUDGEMENT
Relate and compare data from different sources; identify problems, issues or relations then develop courses of action or make decisions based on factual information and logic:

  • Distinguish relevant information and utilise that information to develop solutions to problems.
  • In conjunction with supervisors, make decisions of high quality that reflect consideration of alternatives and possible implications.
  • Read, analyse, and interpret drawings, technical documentation including design standards.

GENERAL

  • Assist in ensuring a harmonious work environment in all departments that you are working with by upholding client key values.
  • Comply with all relevant company Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies and framework and work practices with the intent of preventing or minimising accidental exposures to self, colleagues, visitors and/or the environment and to ensure a safe work practises at all times.
  • Comply with all relevant Company policies and procedures.
  • Attend regular departmental meetings with manager to build in continuous feedback mechanisms.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be eligible to obtain Australian security clearance to Negative Vetting 1 level
  • Eligible to obtain authorisation to work with ITAR controlled equipment and technology.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Occasional interstate travel may be required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications admitting to membership of a professional institution.
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical engineering design and analysis.
  • Relevant drafting, technical and task management experience highly desirable.
  • Experience in the use or management of CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) is essential and 3D Modelling software packages highly desirable.
  • Experience with the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS Poweroint.
