An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to work within Central Government on a contract basis. The position will be based in Swindon for an initial 5 Month contract offering up to £200 per day LTD company.

Key Tasks:

Build black body cavities calibration source, run tests, assist in designs, look at deflection, static deflection, calculations, micro-vibrations. Team size is undecided, but rather large.

Mechanical design engineering and analysis of the calibration Black Bodies for the MTG project. There are two calibration setups: one for the Kayser-Threde instrument and one for the Tas-F instrument. The requirements are quite different and will be run as separate projects, but there is some commonality in the design of the cavities themselves.

The tasks will involve:

Detailed CAD design and drawings.

FEA to verify the designs (depending on experience).

Documentation.

Support for design reviews.

Support for assembly and commissioning of the rigs.

Transport and handling equipment design and verification.

Essential Experience:

Solid edge, design of high vacuum equipment, experience with vacuum systems, cooling cryogenic systems, liquid nitrogen. Knowledge of materials, knowledge of materials in a cryogenic environment, design support structures.

Desirable Experience: Bespoke lifting equipment designing, degree of solid edge experience

Qualification: Mechanical Engineering related qualification (HND or above), Degree qualification preferred. Membership of mechanical engineering body (EngTech, IEng or CEng) preferred.

Personal Skills and Attributes

Experienced designer of equipment for use in cleanroom facilities and under vacuum, with cryogenic (liquid nitrogen) cooling systems.

Experienced user of SolidEdge ST4. Will upgrade to ST7 in the near future.

Knowledge of space projects beneficial.

Experience with ANSYS Workbench beneficial.
