Cloud Work Package Manager

Overview

The IT transformation programme is seeking to deliver over $1.2bn in saves by 2017 making it one of the largest programmes ever undertaken at HSBC. Simplification of the IT Infrastructure represents a significant component of this major task. Through Infrastructure simplification $161m in run-rate saves need to be realised by 2017 with a budget in excess of $200m.

The Cloud work Package:

Saves are expected to be realised through migrating apps from Sparc, AIX and Distributed Systems to IaaS/PaaS platforms; along with Physical to Virtual migrations.

Role Description

The Cloud work package manager is the central interface between the IT Transformation Programme and the GB/GF specific delivery teams in the ADM organisation and the ITID execution teams. They have the overall responsibility to coordinate all activities of the Cloud work package between ITID and the GB/GF's.

This includes, amongst others, the following core tasks:

  • Create and regularly update roadmaps showing all planned Cloud work package Transformation activities in a comprehensive document. Ensure leverage of synergies with the app demise work stream and between different infrastructure activities which involve ADM teams and ITID.
  • Communicate key developments of the Cloud work package to the specific GB/GF and ITID.
  • Regular alignment with GB/GF delivery management, ITID and architects on current activities.
  • Identification of dependencies between ITID and GB/GF's.
  • Support of ITID and GB/GF delivery management in detailing required investment appraisals
  • Aggregating status reports and ensuring alignment with the work package managers. Ensure a regular flow of information between the GB/GF, ITID and the central IT Transformation programme
  • Support IT Transformation's risk and issue management by ensuring appropriate communication of relevant risks to the respective boards

Key objective

  • Ensure planning, execution and reporting on Cloud work package activities in respective ITID and GB/GF
  • Establish a close relationship with the GB/GF and ITID- be an ambassador for the Transformation Programme

Skills and Knowledge

  • 2 years+ project management experience (not in leading position) - preferably as part of large transformation programme (>$100m)
  • Strong communication skills
  • 5 years+ work experience
  • Project management certifications (eg PRINCE2, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of Cloud technologies (IaaS and PaaS), associated Infrastructure and market awareness.
  • Adequate seniority to demonstrate credibility with GB/GF managers (ADM) and ITID
  • Willingness to commit 2 years to role
