Senior Technical Accountant - 12 Months - Coventry - Negotiable Daily Rate

Job Purpose:

The role holder will support the Accounting Policy Manager and the wider Accounting Business Partner team in delivering technical accounting support to the wider finance function.

Key Skill Requirements: (knowledge, skills, experience & qualifications)

The post holder will have:

* A financial accounting qualification (ACA) with post qualification experience
* Strong technical accounting skills and experience of UK GAAP, IFRS, and new UK GAAP
* Excellent numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data
* Excel skills and financial accounting systems experience (ideally SAP)
* High level of self-motivation, drive and initiative
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
* Ideally Big 4 trained and qualified

Areas of work will include:
* Providing technical accounting support during the set up phase of the new Energy Economics business, in order to achieve optimal accounting treatment for the new external commodity hedging activities (energy trading)
* Providing technical accounting advice on investment proposals, deals, contracts and contract renegotiations for all E.ON UK businesses including E.ON Climate and Renewables, Energy Solutions and Community Energy
* Supporting the preparation and audit of FRS101 transition accounts for approx. 35 legal entities following the 2015 GAAP conversion project (UK GAAP to IFRS/FRS101)
* Providing accounting support and advice for Corporate Simplification activities

Key Activities:

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities include both performing and supporting work required in the following areas:
* Providing technical advice and preparing papers relating to complex accounting areas such as:
o Derivative accounting including own use exemptions
o Hedge accounting
o Financial Instruments
o Leases
* Supporting the setup of the Energy Economics business by advising on derivative accounting, MTM implications, Own Use exemptions and hedge accounting; with a view to reducing volatility in the Income Statement as a result of trading activities.
* Reviewing and advising on the technical accounting implications of:
o Investment proposals
o Deals and contracts o Contract re-negotiations
