Senior Financial Accountant/Contract/Capital Accounting/Essex Area/3-6 months/£450-£500
You will be part of a team of expert financial accountants responsible for statutory financial reporting, effective treasury management and tax advice at a large and complex County Council.
You will report to the Chief Accountant and your role will primarily be to specialise in and lead on the capital accounting aspects of the Council's annual closure of accounts programme. You will be responsible for ensuring that this activity is completed in compliance with relevant accounting standards, CIPFA Codes of Practice and government regulations, and in line with the Council's timetable for closure of the accounts. As such, you will need to be 'hands-on' and flexible in your approach. Your overarching aim is to support the achievement of an effective and unqualified external audit of the Council's annual accounts.
Experience of using the 'Real Asset Management' (RAM) asset register software will be an advantage, as will experience of engaging with professional RICS valuers.
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Full CCAB qualification.
- Strong experience in capital accounting
- Experience using "Real Asset Management" (RAM)
- Knowledge and understanding of government regulations (including those related to taxes and duties), Codes of Practice and underlying accounting standards, and practical experience of applying these in a large organisation - preferably public sector..
- Engaging with and providing high quality technical accounting and taxation advice and support to finance professionals, and non finance managers.
- Financial planning and management in a large, complex, customer focussed organisation.
- Inspiring and motivating staff and colleagues, setting targets and goals for the delivery of services.
