Senior Network Engineer- Dublin, Ireland - (12 Month Contract)

Rate: Highly competitive rate

A Senior Network Engineer is required to join an established government organisation. Responsibilities will include managing, developing and supporting a global network (800+users, 35+ sites), phone systems, Servers, computers, devices, security, disaster recovery and helpdesk support. The infrastructure team are a small, specialised and multi-disciplined team who also provide backup to each other. While the primary responsibility of this role is the computer and phone network, it will also involve managing supporting and developing the entire IT infrastructure environment and therefore the organisation is seeking a highly competent individual with extensive experience a broad range of skills.

The contract will be for an initial period of up to 12 months with an option to extend for up to an additional 12 months.

Responsibilities:

  • Management and security of the organisations global network and communications systems (35+ sites), phone systems, Firewalls and server and web-hosting infrastructure.

  • Management of major IT infrastructure projects through business case development, design, procurement and implementation.

  • Provide 2nd/3rd level expert support to Helpdesk team to troubleshoot complex network, phone, server and other infrastructure issues in order to deliver quality IT support services across the organisation.

  • Responsible for security and disaster recovery of related IT Infrastructure.

  • Proactive system monitoring and performance evaluation, patching, upgrades, new deployments, along with appropriate change management processes.

  • Management of related IT infrastructure risks, issues and incident resolution.

  • Participate in the strategic development of the IT Infrastructure, identifying new opportunities, influencing decision makers and developing business cases.

  • Supporting and mentoring other team members, and acting as backup to other systems administrators in the Infrastructure team.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years as a senior network engineer which should include server and related systems administration experience.

  • Proven experience managing, developing and supporting a global IT infrastructure incorporating Cisco networking and Cisco Call Manager and integration with Microsoft enterprise solutions such as Windows Server, Windows Hyper-V, Microsoft Office 365 and related technologies.

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Cisco Networking (LAN/WAN), Cisco Call Manager telephone systems, Wi-Fi networks, and Firewall technologies

  • Strong competency in Microsoft enterprise technologies including Microsoft Server , Active Directory, Office 365, Microsoft Hyper-V .

  • Proven ability to develop IT infrastructure strategies, identify new opportunities and technology enhancements, and project manage major infrastructure projects from business case through to design, procurement and implementation.

  • Must be able to "hit the ground running", get up to speed quickly with the environment, become a trusted and knowledgeable member of the infrastructure team, take on new tasks and projects as they arise, work on own initiative, set goals and deliver tasks on schedule.

  • High degree of flexibility and available to work outside business hours as required.

  • Team Player; strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • A computer-based degree or equivalent.
