Essential Experience:
- VAT/TAX Qualified accountant,
- Part qualified CCAB accountant or qualified by demonstrable experience;
- Year end accounts experience;
- Financial controls;
- Preparation of information for external audit
Summary of the Financial Accountant Role:
Produce draft financial statements and other key aspects of the Annual Report and Accounts, liaise with other areas of the business to obtain and collate content, and co-ordinate the external audit. Ensure that the College's non-current assets are recorded accurately, and that the budget and project managers have the information needed to enable effective decisions regarding Capital expenditure.
The post holder will:
- Assist the Financial Controller in the production of the College's Annual Report and Accounts by preparing draft financial statements from the Trial Balance extracted from SAP, using a bespoke Excel model containing complex formulae, to ensure the College satisfies statutory reporting requirements.
- Analyse bank statements and other information to create monthly cash flow forecasts and determine the amount of Grant In Aid draw down required to ensure that adequate liquidity is maintained and balances adhere to Treasury guidance.
- Liaise with project and line managers to review and appraise Business Cases for capital spend, create accurate forecasts of future capital spend and provide financial detail around current projects to the Capital Investment Board, to ensure compliance with College policies and confirm synergy with the Five Year Strategy and budget provision.
- Lead as the main point of contact for day to day liaison, coordinating all audit visits, sampling requests and business-wide responses, and preparing the pre-audit pack with full transaction SAP downloads, an Extended Trial Balance and first draft Financial Statements, to ensure the College demonstrates full, accurate and timely compliance and statutory requirements.
- Analyse SAP reports to determine inter-group balances and prepare and complete quarterly reports for Whole of Government Accounting purposes, ensuring that these provide an accurate representation of the College
