World leading IT company are looking for a UNIX Engineers for a 12 month contract based in Newcastle. Ideally this person will be SC Cleared but if not must be willing to go through the process. They are looking for people with strong AIX skills to work in the UNIX team. The Unix Engineer will provide technical and operational support as part of a small team based in Newcastle
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years' experience in an enterprise computing environment with AIX. Have a proven background in supporting large scale AIX environments running AIX 5.2 up to 6.1 and associated technologies, HACMP, GPFS, Virtualisation and NIM
+ Additional experience with Redhat and Solaris is preferred
+ Extensive experience developing scripts and automation to drive business value and efficiency
+ Experience with Enterprise-class Open Source tools for Configuration Management, Anti-Virus, Logging, Monitoring, or Firewalls/Protection techniques
+ Understanding of Middleware technologies and computing concepts
+ Expert understanding of UNIX commands from multiple distributions
+ Good knowledge of at least one other technology field (network, distributed, systems management, application design)
+ Experience with designing and supporting high availability UNIX solutions
+ Experience with UNIX disaster recovery
+ Experience performing system administration duties on AIX systems
+ UNIX/AIX Certifications strongly desired
+ Ability to communicate with a wide cross-section of users and adjust engagement style to suit the circumstances
+ Strong team player, capable of working as part of a virtual and logical team and independently as circumstances dictate.
+ Demonstrable experience of running and delivering small to medium sized projects.
+ Strong technical experience covering the Midrange server environment, Storage/Backup etc.
+ Demonstrable success in involvement with the Service Management functions and processes at a working level.
+ Working knowledge of PC and laptop hardware troubleshooting and configurations.
+ Experience with LAN/WAN configurations.
+ VPN and remote access experience strongly desired.
+ Technical Prerequisites:-
+ A good working knowledge of server hardware and terminology. Particularly IBM midrange Unix hardware.
+ Experience of the build out and configuration of Midrange/Middleware products. A working knowledge of server infrastructure and OS. Ability to follow technical installation guides and/or and conduct bare metal builds from scratch for a range of products and technologies
