Senior Systems EngineerMy client are a leading software house based in the heart of London, currently recruiting for a Senior Systems Engineer to join their current team. This is a newly created role would be predominantly focused on implementing and maintaining the hosting environment required to deliver a hosted Trakcare solution.
The role is working within the Service Management Team, whose primary function is to ensure operational service levels are achieved in agreement with clients. The overall responsibility of the team is to ensure that the 24/7 operations, services and solutions run smoothly and adhere to appropriate SLA's. Also ensuring that clients' expectations are met and managed.
Responsibilities:
- Datacenter capacity and growth planning, including rack and server layout as well as power and cooling.
- Work with our co-location providers to design cage layouts, provision power and cooling for expansions as well as new deployments.
- Provision and deploy a large inventory of server, network and infrastructure equipment in a production environment.
- Perform stringent hardware qualification testing on new hardware platforms and certify them for production deployments.
- Work with engineering departments to define project requirements for new datacenter hardware deployments.
- Track datacenter issues, troubleshoot and remedy hardware issues, and manage RMA processes with various vendors.
- Refine existing monitoring processes and add new functionality and metrics.
- Implement best-practice methodology for maintaining a datacenter environment.
- Create automated provisioning processes for streamlining deployments.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Linux systems administration experience (Redhat/Centos Preferred)
- Puppet or Chef configuration and management
- VMware vSphere 5.x with vCenter configuration and administration
- Strong scripting skills
- Cisco networking Layer 2 and 3 configuration and management
- EMC VNX configuration and management experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills
Desirable skills:
- Cisco Nexus experience, MPLS experience
- VMWare distributed switches, DRS, Storage DRS, Monitoring
- EMC XtremIO Experience
- In depth knowledge of service monitoring and alerting (Nagios experienced preferred)
- Software development environment experience
- ITIL knowledge - principles and application
