Job Title: Strategic Finance Analyst

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Contract: 6 months with possible extension

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, the holder of this post will be responsible for providing financial support and advice during the preparation of major business case submissions to Government departments. The holder of the post will also be required to contribute towards the development of corporate management accounting initiatives and the sharing of best practice. The role may involve advising finance and non-finance managers on complicated, sensitive or controversial information.

Ideally the job-holder will work towards gaining full qualification.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Preparation of complex financial models and analysis and provision of financial advice to support business case submissions

- Preparation and presentation of financial impact assessments and scenario modelling relating to changes in service provision, initiatives or new legislation, as required.

- Preparation of benefit realisation analysis and reports.

- Responsible for maintaining and developing the unit costing system and creating subsequent reports. Requiring an in depth knowledge and experience of finance allocation techniques and making judgements requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options

- Responsible for the provision of pricing and costing information. Undertake analysis of complex financial trends and provide strategic and operational forecast information

- Contribute towards accounting policy and financial procedure improvements, impacting on areas other than just the Finance Team within the Authority.

- Responsible for the production of finance reports to management and executive teams. This will involve the coordination of the work of other staff. The holder of this post will be required to provide advice on complex corporate issues demonstrating an in depth specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.

- Contribute to the long term and short term financial planning of the Authority, including the formulation of the annual budget. This includes the planning of the budget cycle and coordinating the work of staff within the finance team and in other directorates.

- Providing detailed advice to budget managers on the impact of decisions regarding their budgets and other financial resources.

- Responsible for cultivating the services provided as a centre of excellence. This will be achieved by overseeing the development of staff, services and systems in line with best practice, new initiatives, quality improvements and on-going consultation with key stakeholders.

- Authorised signatory for section's expenditure.

- To be aware of their own development requirements and actively seek development opportunities.
