Description

Sopra Steria Recruitment is working in partnership with a major public sector client in the UK.

We are currently recruiting a Management Accountant for an initially 6 month contract based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day co-ordination of the management accounting team providing practical financial training and direction to all staff.
  • Ensure the provision of accurate and meaningful financial information to budget managers in a clear and understandable format.
  • Contribute towards accounting policy and financial procedure improvements, impacting on areas other than just the Finance Team within the Authority.
  • Responsible for the production of monthly finance reports. This will involve the coordination of the work of other staff. The holder of this post will be required to provide advice on complex corporate issues demonstrating an in depth specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, particularly in relation to the healthcare.
  • Responsible for maintaining and developing the unit costing system and creating subsequent reports to the Healthcare. Requiring an in depth knowledge and experience of finance allocation techniques and making judgements requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options.
  • Responsible for the provision of pricing and costing information. Undertake analysis of complex financial trends and provide strategic and operational forecast information.
  • Contribute to the long term and short term financial planning of the Authority, including the formulation of the annual budget. This includes the planning of the budget cycle and coordinating the work of staff within the finance team and in other directorates.
  • Providing detailed advice to budget managers on the impact of decisions regarding their budgets and other financial resources.
  • Responsible for provision of financial information to budget holders and managers. This will include the regular provision of monthly budget reports to a specification which has been developed in consultation with senior managers and directors. In addition ad hoc reports are requested by budget holders to address individual issues in their directorate.
  • Assist in the production of business cases for both revenue and capital schemes.
  • Monitoring of project costs and undertaking post-implementation evaluations of projects.
  • Responsible for cultivating the services provided as a centre of excellence. This will be achieved by overseeing the development of staff, services and systems in line with best practice, new initiatives, quality improvements and on-going consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Authorised signatory for section's expenditure.
  • To be aware of their own development requirements and actively seek development opportunities.

Upon acquiring qualification and experience, duties to include:

  • Lead on the finance function for specific service areas.
  • Liaise with senior staff to provide support and advice on the financial implications of decisions.
  • Developing the financial awareness of senior staff within the Authority.
  • Advising senior managers on the financial strategy of the Authority and how that applies to their service area.
  • Scrutinising and challenging the financial information produced.
  • Providing advice on complex corporate issues demonstrating an in depth knowledge of financial and management accounting procedures in relation to the Healthcare.
  • Develop and maintain costing methodology, regularly reviewing the method to ensure it meets best practice.
  • Conducting value for money reviews within specific areas of the service.
  • Reviewing all business cases and ensuring they are sufficiently robust to be considered by the senior managers of the Healthcare.

Essential experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in relevant financial and management position.
  • Experience of integrated finance systems.
  • Experience of managing a customer focused management accounting team.
  • Production of board level reports.
  • Experience of leading a team providing a financial management service.
  • Experience of developing a management accounting service and delivering service improvements.
  • Leading the annual revenue and capital budget setting process.
  • Qualified CCAB Professional Accountancy Qualification.
