Environmental and Social Manager (site)Quanta's Client is building three natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants including Beni Suef, Burullus and New Capital with H-class technology and a total capacity of 14.4GW in the country. The power plants are expected to boost Egypt's power generation by 50%.
Quanta's Client has shipped two gas turbines, which are scheduled to be installed in mid-May. The two 12.6m long and 5.5m wide SGT5-8000H turbines are first of eight to be installed in the plant in several phases.
In March last year, Quanta's client reached agreements with the Egyptian government to build 4.4GW power plant in Southern Egypt and install wind power capacity of 2GW. Under the agreed terms, Quanta's client is responsible for providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the Beni Suef combined-cycle power plant.
The power plant will be built in four modules, each of which will have two H-class gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, one steam turbine, and three generators. Job description:
- Taking the lead on environmental and social management issues for the site
- Implementing environmental strategies and action plans that ensure IFC performance
standards, Egyptian laws and regulations and ISO14001 - Coordinating all aspects such as, but not limited to, pollution control, waste management,
environmental health, hygiene, safety and social aspects from the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) on site - Ensuring compliance and keeping up to date with environmental legislation and IFC
performance standard on site - Liaising with relevant bodies such as the Owner, local authorities and consortium
partners - Monitoring, analysing and reporting environmental performance to internal and external
clients and regulatory bodies - Carrying out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce an site environmental
risks
- Have initial experience in managing Environmental, Health, Social and Safety issues in
projects - Show initiative to recognise emerging problems and pro-actively develop solutions using
methods such as systems thinking - Negotiate and organise
- Demonstrate a high level of computer literacy
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Must speak Arabic and English fluent
- A degree in environmental engineering would be of benefit
