Description

Finance Officer - Accounts Assistant - Finance Admin - 3 month contract (Up to £13 per hour paid on a contract basis via an umbrella company)

Overall purpose of post: To work as part of the Finance Team carrying out the financial duties in accordance with Faculty and University procedures; and to provide a high standard of customer service.

Main duties:

1. Assist the Project Manager in the costing of research, consultancy and collaborative agreements; and in the production of associated reports.

2. Assist in monitoring the financial performance of research, consultancy and collaborative agreements; and in the production of associated reports.

3. Provide project budget holders with the required project monitoring reports, providing analysis (detailed breakdown) where required.

4. Reconcile the financial system to project reports to ensure accuracy, and to prepare journals as required.

5. Maintain a schedule of live projects, showing agreed key project details, values and timescales, and invoicing points for clients.

6. Maintain a file of contracts for individual projects and any associated correspondence with Legal Services.

7. Monitor that project invoicing has been prompted, performed and income collected.

8. Assist in the preparation of project reports and claims to customers (including grant claims to sponsors) within timescale, and that the reports are submitted using the appropriate medium (paper or increasingly via the relevant portal).

9. Assist the Head of Finance & Planning with an external audit of projects as required.

10. Other duties as required to provide an efficient service to the faculty and ensuring that there is backup of departmental services.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 12 months administration experience of which 6 months should be in financial administration.

Ability to use Excel, Access and Word

Ability to use Infoview as a user and to develop reports

Experience of costing

Experience of contract monitoring

Effective interpersonal skills

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team

Time Management and organisational skills, including ability to meet deadlines

Ability to draft financial and other reports suitable for management review

Accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to produce documents including layout

Highly numerate

Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly

An ability to critically analyse, challenge and interpret complex data
