Purpose of the role
As a Network Engineer you will join our network operations team based in Hoofddorp. The main responsibility of the engineer is to evaluate the structure, security and productivity of the infrastructure and to then provide second and third line support on incidents, faults and problems that arise within the network. In addition to the prompt support to requests, the engineer will deploy, monitor and maintain globally distributed data center infrastructure; conduct analysis of network connectivity failure and implement solutions and to support customers and resolve issues related to dedicated line network, VPN and exchange connectivity.
The candidate will need to demonstrate over 5 years' experience strong trouble- shooting skills across a wide range of platforms, with a main focus on understanding, improving and implementing Switches and Routing upgrades.
Your responsibilities will cover the maintenance and monitoring of all networked software and associated operating systems, as well as gauging the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems, proposing new system design concepts and providing direction to the system programmer and development teams. This will include day-to-day management of the Routers, Switches, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, Linux, VMware infrastructure etc.
This role is largely focused on technology in VMWare and networking, therefore VMware VCP and Cisco CCNP certifications or equivalent experience are highly desirable. It would be beneficial if you have a working knowledge of JUNOS and the Juniper family of Routers and Switches.
You will also have great organization and communication skills with the ability to translate technical and user friendly language. Advanced knowledge of various network protocols, operating systems, storage systems, data backups, Firewalls and practical experience of managing secure websites.
Deliverables/Tasks
- Detailed planning and execution of upgrades with minimal or no outage to service
- Provide network operations incident management support for the network infrastructure and network services
- Identification and delivery of improvements in the use of existing network technology
- Perform in-depth troubleshooting analysis, isolation and resolution of events and incidents
- Develop and implement network designs
- Provide problem management and perform Root Cause Analysis
Significant role requirements
- Minimum CCNP, ideally CCIE
- Ideally JNCIA JNCNP
- Prince certification
- ITIL certification
- At least 5 years' experience of implementing and managing complex network environments
- Fluent in English(word and writing); Dutch is an advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure with a proactive mind set
- Methodical and able to think on feet.
- Experience in a critical 24x7 environment
- Preferably having a Bachelor degree or similar level build up by experience
Technical Knowledge
Sound knowledge and experience in the following areas is a must:
- LAN, WAN, VLAN & VPN
- VMware, vSphere/vCenter
- IP, BGP, OSPF
- MPLS
- Routing and Switches (Cisco & Juniper)
- DNS/DHCP experience
- TCP/IP experience
- Telephony systems experience such as Mitel
- Firewall experience (eg Checkpoint)
- F5 load balancers
Experience in the following areas is beneficial:
- Monitoring systems such as Nagios, Dynatrace
- Knowledge of PCI-DSS, ISO 27001
- General knowledge on all areas of applications and infrastructure
