Description

Barclaycard Financial Control

The Barclaycard Financial team is responsible for maintaining and implementing an effective control and financial reporting environment, applying of key accounting standards and finance polices, delivering key central reporting requirements and providing technical/commercial advice to other parts of the business and finance. The team is also accountable for delivery of certain key finance, regulatory and business change projects by providing financial control governance and support for implementation within Barclaycard. The team is responsible for maintaining relationship with key stakeholders (Barclaycard business unit Finance teams, Barclays central Finance teams, infrastructure areas within Barclaycard and related Barclays business Finance teams) to ensure effective delivery of all requirements.

Overall purpose of role

As a member of the Barclaycard Financial Control team, the BPF Business Unit Controller role is responsible for supporting the end to end financial control, reporting and governance deliverables for the BPF business unit. The BPF Business Unit Controller is Financial Control's primary point of contact for the BPF Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer of the BBS strategic business units. The BBS Business Unit Controller reports into the Barclaycard Business Solutions Financial Controller.

Monthly/Quarterly/Annual close and reporting and control processes (50%)

Projects, New Products and Change (20%)

The right candidate will have the presence and confidence to build credibility quickly with peers and senior stakeholders within the BPF Finance function across various business locations. They will have proven communications skills with different levels of seniority and be a 100% team player.

Decision-making and Problem Solving

It is necessary to have solid knowledge and appreciation of the accounting standards, financial control core processes, demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy whilst working well under pressure make decisions and manage issue resolution. The right candidate should have the ability to understand the detail but also able to take a big picture approach.

The candidate will also demonstrate personal resilience and be comfortable and flexible to take on various challenges in a changing environment and to assist BPF Barclaycard Finance in executing its transformation and growth plans.

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Person Specification

Professional/technical experience

The role holder will have a good understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS") and core finance processes. Familiarity with SAP, Hyperion (Essbase) would also be desirable, but not essential. Previous experience in Financial Services required and familiarity with the payment industry, particularly credit cards and merchant acquiring, would also be desirable.

In addition, the right candidate will have an aptitude for delivering results, will have creative problem solving/issue resolution skills and demonstrate strong communication skills with different levels of seniority in formal/informal settings.

Academic and professional qualifications

The right candidate will be ACA or equivalent qualified professional with strong practical work experience in Financial Control.

Language skills

The role holder will have an excellent command of English language with strong written and verbal communication skills.
