Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Company Accountant to join their Investments team on a temporary contract basis.

Main Purpose of the Job:

  • To provide the accounting function for concessions to meet concession, lender, shareholder and statutory reporting requirements whilst recruiting a permanent member of staff to fill an equivalent position.
  • To pick up requirements from the incumbent, and to pass these on to the permanent hire.

Key duties/responsibilities will include:

  • Production of UK GAAP/IFRS monthly management accounts and commentary thereon (including variance analysis) to concession deadlines;
  • Preparation of statutory accounts and acting as first point of contact with auditors;
  • Preparation of annual budgets and periodic updates to support 6-monthly updates for lenders;
  • Making payments to subcontractors and lenders to contractual timescales;
  • Liaison with lenders in respect of loan agreement financial administration;
  • In conjunction with the Finance Manager, maintenance of the Finance Policies and Procedures Manuals;
  • Producing cash flow forecasts, managing treasury deposits and controlling company bank balances;
  • Liaison with Finance Manager to determine technical accounting calculations as required (eg IFRIC 12 and FRS 5 for PFI and similar concession arrangements);
  • Ownership of all General Ledger accounts and ensuring that invoices, payments, receipts and month-end journals are processed accurately and with required authorizations;
  • Ensuring that the concessions' financial transactions are carried out in accordance with its contracts and accounting policies and standards and that reliable accounting records are maintained;
  • Production of Balance Sheet account reconciliations;
  • Liaison with internal audit function and resolution of issues identified;
  • Preparation of Corporation Tax quarterly payment calculations and provision of information to tax advisers relating to annual computations and returns;
  • Any other additional duties such as the Head of Finance, Finance Manager or Concession management team may reasonably require;

Ideal Candidate will have the following skills/experience:

  • Educated to degree or equivalent standard;
  • Qualified accountant;
  • PFI experience preferable but not essential;
  • Familiarity with SUN Accounts software preferable;
  • Good practical accountant;
  • Able to work with technical accounting concepts;
  • IT literate especially with Excel and Word.
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with colleagues at a range of levels;
  • Able to act on own initiative and prepared to ask for guidance;
  • Able to perform a number of different tasks and to prioritise own workload to ensure deadlines are met, whilst producing accurate work, is essential;
  • Quick to assimilate and work effectively with new information;
