KPMG are currently looking for a General Ledge Operations Lead to support one of our pharmaceutical companies on a 6 month contract basis. This will be 12 weeks in Reading with the look to move over to the Dublin office for a short period of time.

This is a key management role within the R2R team, leading a team of qualified and part-qualified accountants providing general ledger accounting services to over 100 entities across our clients European operations.

The role is responsible for managing the schedule of activities supporting the month end close process, including ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the reporting of financial results under US GAAP to the group consolidation team.

The role ensures processes within the GL Operations team remain SOX compliant whilst driving efficiency and consistency at the transactional level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the GL Operations team, including objective setting, development and training, coaching staff and providing ongoing direction and feedback.
  • Delivery of the bi yearly performance reviews and establishment of development plans across the team to ensure capabilities and skills are up to date and relevant to direction of business growth. It is important that the team is highly motivated to deliver a high standard of customer service to finance partners across the geographic remit.
  • Ensure that the month end process is well controlled and executed efficiently to meet all reporting deadlines.
  • Liaise with the wider R2R team and Group Reporting team to ensure ad-hoc accounting matters (for example, complex step plans relating to group restructures) are appropriately resourced and accounted for accurately.
  • Ensure a rigorous review of the financial reconciliations and ensure appropriate back up is maintained for audit purposes.
  • As the key process owner for Fixed Assets, Inter-company and In-house-cash, Prepayments, Equity, FX and GL journals/allocations, ensure that each work-stream is operating efficiently and effectively, and that all SOX controls are met.
  • Represent the GL Operations team on process improvement projects, systems initiatives and liaise closely with counterparts in USA to ensure overall consistency of process.
  • Act as a key coordination point for internal and external audit walkthroughs, controls testing and year end audit support.

Education & Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Qualified accountant with a minimum of 5 years PQE
  • Experienced in US GAAP
  • Proven hands-on experience of SAP/ERP
  • Management of teams of 10-20 accounting associates

Preferred:

  • Technical knowledge of complex inter-company accounting and FX: in house cash banking arrangements, inter-company settlement processes
  • Technical knowledge of executing cross-entity step plan accounting
  • Hyperion experience
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry
