IT Service Manager
An IT service manager's role within a company entails designing, creating and maintaining the company's IT services. While leading the company's IT team, the IT service manager strives to develop a reliable IT service and improve the organization's existing IT service infrastructure.
Skills
As the job title suggests, candidates looking to pursue careers in IT service management must have three sets of skills: IT, services, and management. They must have an excellent knowledge of IT systems and tools, and always keep up to date with new developments in the IT industry. As this is a managerial role, they must know not only how to execute certain industry-specific tasks, but also be aware of the possibilities and constraints of the industry at large, and they must be able to helm their team within those boundaries.
Qualifications
To be considered for the position of IT service manager, a candidate must have industry specific professional qualifications in addition to a university degree in a relevant subject. The IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) qualification is required throughout the IT service management hierarchy
