Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Must be available to be hands on
  • Accountable for the strategy, delivery, planning and general management of new pre-production VMware cloud based environments utilising ITIL V3 best practice, supporting the deployment of code and configuration with subsequent test verification prior to delivery into QA or development
  • Accountable for the detailed project planning of all software deliveries into pre-production, working closely with development, operations and service delivery to understand hardware, software and delivery dependencies.
  • Suggesting new tooling where applicable, or using existing applications to support Incident, release and change management as well as environment booking and configuration across the whole pre-production landscape
  • Advise upon the implementation of a continuous integrated source control code delivery and testing system, focused within an agreed deployment pipeline, providing robust automated unit tested functionality and a tested delivery mechanism as an output
  • Coordinating with internal technical services and offshore partners to support hardware delivery, patching and upgrades within the new VMware environment and supporting infrastructure where applicable
  • Responsible for the release strategy and supporting processes required for the delivery of code and configuration into all pre-production environments, agreed upon and communicated to all relevant senior management
  • Ensure there is a strong sense of High Performance and Team culture coaching staff to demonstrate ownership and accountability and supporting them to develop their skills.
  • Own the technical rollout roadmap aligning with the Business and Architecture roadmaps.
  • Ensure that appropriate technical delivery models (Agile/Waterfall etc) are used, and are deployed to industry standard
  • Ensure that there is an end-to-end, interconnected approach to cross-programme deliverables.
  • Ensure that Quality Assurance is lived-and-breathed by all members of the team

Ideal candidate profile:

  • Eight to ten years' experience in a senior technical delivery role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills to explain complex terminology and initiatives in straightforward terms to various audiences.
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to inspire colleagues and customers.
  • Track record of implementing complex systems in a complex stakeholder environment using on-shore as well as off-shore, outsourced as well as in-house teams. Experienced with package deployments as well as custom developments.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable with a range of project management, development, quality assurance and continuous improvement standards.
  • Must have the ability to interpret written requirements and technical specification documents, and understand the implications for a business organisation.
  • A broad knowledge of development platforms, languages and technologies and an understanding of applications development/systems delivery methodologies.
  • Appreciation of applications architecture, and the optimal method of delivering, integrating and deploying software functionality.
  • Ability to manage a team. Excellent planning skills and a structured thought process.
  • The ability to think clearly and make correct decisions under extreme pressure.
  • Ability to manage across multiple programmes, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Self-starter with initiative - able to manage up, down and across the organisation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and senior management liaison.
