Description

Initially you will be working with the Cost Reduction Team within Engineering, Operations and Procurement. You will be responsible for delivering a sound engineering perspective of total product cost of transfer from one supplier to another of leading edge medical devices. As an experienced Engineer you will understand of the total cost of transfer and have a clear view of each of the transfer risks (with mitigation) and be able to propose opportunities to improve quality and reliability. The demands of this role will require good technical skills and the ability to function as a lead engineer to support the Cost Reduction activities.

After the delivery of the Cost Reduction activities you will be a key member of a multi-discipline team in Continuous Development responsible for maintaining and evolving the design of the product. This includes product improvements, increasing Reliability and handling design obsolescence

The role is UK based but there will be significant interaction with international suppliers with occasional travel.

Responsibilities:
  • The ability to provide technical support and direction to project teams.
  • Have excellent analytical ability and attention to detail with a strong affinity for numbers.
  • Produce specifications for, design, develop and manufacture for new or modified mechanical components or systems
  • Able to use Mechanical engineering first principles
  • Excellent team working and interpersonal skills, building relationships with individuals within the project teams and influencing those around you will be essential to the success of the role
  • The ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format internally and externally to suppliers.
  • Ability to adapt or generate imaginative and innovative cost effective ideas, in line with core Elekta values

  • Analytical ability demonstrated through previous engineering work.

  • Strong knowledge of alternative manufacturing techniques and processes with global impact.
  • Proven track record in working to tight timescales within a project programme, managing your priorities to deliver cost effective results.
  • Tenacity in getting to understand an issue and challenging others in a constructive manner.
  • Previous experience in working within a Cost Reduction environment is desirable though not essential.
  • Ability to travel, sometimes internationally.
  • Strong communication skills in one-to-one situations, in a team environment and when presenting to senior managers and executives.
Qualifications:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (accredited by the IMechE), Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status.
  • Ideally but not essential must to have exposure of Cost Reduction engineering.
  • At least 5 years experience within a manufacturing engineering or similar design discipline preferably with technically complex, high cost capital equipment.
  • Confident with the ability to work alongside Mechanical and Electronics Engineers and generate realistic but challenging plans and with the ability to ensure full 'buy-in' from those staff.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to organise and chair meetings.
  • A self-starting individual who is self-motivated with an ability to multi-task.
  • Must be tenacious with a strong and positive influencing style.
  • Direct experience of using an electronic Product Data Management system for managing the technical engineering configuration of products and parts.
