Description

Vsphere SME - PCF - London

Square One are looking for a VSphere SME to come on board for a 6 month rolling contract based in London starting immediately.

The vSphere infrastructure Operator would be responsible for configuring and managing the following resources in vSphere

  • Maintaining vSphere clusters, datastores, and/or resource groups that PCF will be installed on
  • Configuring the vSphere network and virtual Switches that are used by PCF
  • Configuring vSphere datastores that are used by the VMs and disks in PCF
  • Monitoring the health of the vSphere cluster, storage and network that is used by PCF using vCenter or vRealize Operations
  • Managing the capacity of the vSphere cluster via vRealize Operations, and adjusting hypervisors, clusters, and datastores to make sure there is enough vCPU, RAM, and I/O throughput in the cluster to meet SLAs.
  • Managing the throughput and capacity of the underlying storage array to ensure fast I/O for container staging and deployment
  • Keeping the vSphere configuration secure
  • Updating the various components of a vSphere deployment's ESX hypervisors, vCenter, etc.
  • Providing the platform operator with access to the vSphere environment and required vSphere configuration settings to install PCF.
  • Allocate IP address range(s) and subnets to PCF for management by Ops Manager

From the point of view of the infrastructure operator PCF represents a pool of virtual machines and independent disks running on a vSphere cluster, whose provisioning life cycle are fully managed by the platform itself. PCF VMs are based on linked clone and snapshot technology, similar to vSphere VDI environments. The focus of the vSphere Operator is to monitor and manage the capacity and performance of the VMware cluster(s), configure the optional use of VMware HA and DRS for VM load balancing and recovery, and ensure a VM restart plan is in place for hypervisor downtime and/or upgrades. Pivotal Services offering Platform and Operations Dojo Pivotal will work with the vSphere administrators to design the required vSphere configuration within the constraints of the environments. The vSphere operator should have the required VMWare experience and certifications so that they can be trusted to run a production vSphere environment.
