Unix Engineer
Type of Position: Contract
40 hour work week

Job Requirements

- Provide technical leadership for supporting UNIX and Virtualization platform across AA's distributed environments
- Establish recommendations and guidelines for the development, test, operations and application support environments
- Provide information needed to assess the risk of production deployment of a business critical application: installation and configuration readiness, performance and scalability evaluation, stability and durability evaluation, and best practices procedures
- Assist in determining overall hardware and software configuration along with capacity projections and planning for future support of growing operations
- Needs to be extensible to changing platform requirements or other progressions in the distributed computing model.
Technical Expertise
- Strong ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues
- Expert knowledge of Solaris Operating System
- Experience with Solaris container/zone a must have
- Understanding of networking is required
- Need to have knowledge of installing, configuring and maintaining of Sun/Solaris and Linux OS
- Experience with Oracle Engineered Systems (Exadata and Super Cluster) build and configuration is a MUST HAVE
- Working knowledge of Volume manger (Veritas, Solaris etc.) is required, ZFS knowledge is required
- Knowledge of a clustering software (Veritas or Sun) is required
- Experience with external storage (SAN/NAS) is required from server - configuration and administration prospective
- Working knowledge of IPMP and power path is a plus
- Shell Scripting knowledge as Unix Administrator is required
- Experience with Linux (Red Hat) is a must
- Working knowledge of backup and restore of UNIX Servers
- Knowledge of capacity monitoring and management of UNIX Servers
- High Availability concept/knowledge will be a big plus (ie Local Datacenter HA or DR across multiple DC.)
- Knowledge of Proxy service, naming services (LDAP, DNS etc.) is needed
- Solaris Packages and RPM maintenance and participate in patch management
- Any working knowledge of DTrace will be highly preferred
- Understands boot process and run levels, paging and swapping, inter-process communication, functions of devices and device drivers and file system concepts
- Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure
Other related knowledge
- Understanding of various hardware platforms is required
- Working knowledge of Networking is essential
- Understanding of Windows based security and integration with Active Directory is desired
- Understanding of enterprise networking is desired
- Prior experience of development and n-tier architecture would be very helpful
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant field preferred
- 5-7 years' experience required
