Role description:

Our client has developed a deep understanding of high power systems through its involvement in multiple UK and international programmes, and has the domain knowledge and key university partnerships to ensure success to our customers.

Our client is looking for a dynamic and high performing Chief Engineer with current aviation power electronics experience, to work within our clients IPS Business to deliver a large scale flagship programme.

This is a complex and challenging role that will be highly rewarding and high profile, with extensive communication and interfacing requirements with the programme stakeholders, demanding excellent interpersonal skills and high levels of energy and stamina.

Main Duties:

The Chief Engineer will be directly responsible to the Head of Engineering for the Engineering leadership of the development and delivery of the IPS aviation technical capability.

Specific responsibilities include:

* Leading engineering teams in developing technical solutions across the IPS aviation business.
* Serve as the customer facing point of contact for all technical matters for the programme.
* The identification of programme technical risks and formulation of risk mitigation strategies.
* Working closely with the IPS Business Unit Lead & engineering leadership team to develop the technical strategic direction of the programme.
* Providing programme engineering leadership for the response to all RFCs, Bids and Proposals.
* To ensure the efficient delivery of engineering commitments to the programme and IPS business area, on time and within budget.
* Build and sustain relationships with customers; understand and communicate their priorities.
* Provide technical direction for proposed solutions, including optimum approaches to development, engineering, interfacing, integration and testing, documentation, supplier specifications and SOWs.
* Monitor key program engineering performance metrics.
* Support peer reviews and team reviews on other programs.

Essential Candidate Requirements:

* BEng/MSc/MEng/PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar, discipline or equivalent education and experience.
* Significant experience in the Aerospace Industry, particularly power systems.
* Experienced in the design of Switch Mode Power Supplies.
* Strong aerospace background and proven track record in engineering execution, managing client engagements, and have served in key technical and management leadership positions.
* Proven success integrating efforts and products from major subcontractors
* Experience interfacing directly with customers and management teams including conducting briefings and technical meetings for management and customer representatives.
* Demonstrated experience managing all technical aspects an Engineering life cycle from Requirements definition to entry into production.
* Proven success as a Chief Engineer/or engineering leader and at least 15 years proven experience in a related whole life cycle systems engineering role developing complex power systems solutions.
* Comprehensive understanding of risk management, including the use of Risk Management tools and techniques. Comprehensive understanding and experience in the formulation and implementation of an Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance strategy and plan.
* Excellent analytical, trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
* Demonstrated experience working effectively in Matrix environment including working collaboratively with multiple teams across agencies and physical locations.
* Strong communication skills, written, oral and listening skills; strong business acumen and diverse business perspective; ability to think logically and strategically.
* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and independently with individuals at various levels including the leadership team, customers, and suppliers.
* Solid understanding of Systems Engineering Industry Best Practices and other business processes.
* Experience leading efforts successfully from proposal development through program delivery, transition, and closure.
* Involvement and recognition in technical and customer community.

Desired Skills/Experience:
* Financial Control Account management experience
* Understanding of Earned Value Management Techniques and the application of EVMS within a Project delivery life cycle
* Knowledge of information or knowledge management solutions
* Experience of working with DOORS
* Experienced in system modelling using MATLAB would be advantageous.
* Experienced in the design of Switch Mode Power Supplies.
