Role

Working for our Tier 1 Investment Banking client, you will join a Unix Level 3 team providing expert technical Unix support and escalation for the Global Unix Level 1 and Level 2 teams. In addition, the Unix level 3 team works closely with Incident/Problem Management and other Global Infrastructure support teams to resolve high priority and complex incidents, and liaises directly with clients to provide solutions to meet their infrastructure requirements.

The Unix Level 3 team are Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for the Unix Infrastructure and technologies which they support and develop and document process and procedures to enable the Unix Level 1 and Level 2 teams to effectively and efficiently manage the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform UNIX System Administrator tasks and provide general proactive management of all in scope UNIX systems, in line with account policies, processes and procedures.
  • Daily, weekly, monthly management checks and remediation
  • Filesystem related tasks (eg increase/decrease, add/remove, defragmentation), Volume related tasks, Monitoring and remediation
  • Incident Handling and Troubleshooting
  • Planned and Emergency Change preparation and implementation
  • Provide cover for 24*7 escalation support service
  • Review, approve, allocate/schedule incoming Incidents, Changes, and Service Requests
  • Vendor Engagement and activity co-ordination
  • Install/upgrade UNIX OS and related third party software patches in line with the account Change Management and Technology Roadmap
  • Analyse manage and resolve security & compliance issues in line with account policies.
  • Participate in scheduled DR exercises and BCPs, reviews and improvement activities as directed by DXC leader and DR Co-ordinator
  • Provide support for planned maintenance events such as (but not limited to) Data Centre power downs, Switch upgrades, Technical refresh activities
  • Ensure asset management database is kept up to date following any changes
  • Undertake activities to on-board Servers into the operational support status, as requested from team lead or manager

To be considered for this role, you will be a strong Unix Systems Administrator from a solid Financial Services background.

You will also have the following skills/experience:

  • 7+ years' experience in at least 2 of the following:

Solaris (11,10,9,8) and Solaris 10,11 Zone Management
Linux (SuSE, RedHat)
AIX System Maintenance
Veritas Product Suite (VxVM, VxFS, VCS)
Solaris Volume Manager
OS Performance Troubleshooting

  • Specialist in the following:

EMC Storage Technologies (ie SRDF)
Networking Troubleshooting
OS Level Recovery (ie Solaris, Linux, AIX)
OS Level Patching (ie Solaris, Linux, AIX)

  • Competent in the following:

Veritas Cluster File System (CFS)
Oracle Exadata (OEL)
HDS Storage Technologies (ie TrueCopy)
Task automation (ie ksh/Perl Scripting)
User Management (ieNIS)
Understanding of NFS (ietroubleshooting)
Understanding of Samba (ie installation and troubleshooting)
OS Backup Management (ie TSM)
Disaster Recovery Testing
