Server Support Specialist Unix Administrator
Daily Rate 6 months
Based in Dublin 1
We are currently seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals to join the team as a Unix Administrator.
The Unix Team
- The Unix team is part of the overall ETS group which comprises the following teams: SAN, Wintel, Network, Middleware, DBA. We currently have 4 members who look after all the Unix European infrastructure..
We have a mixture of physical and virtual server kit which comprises mostly HPUX and AIX (approx. 50:50 split). We also have a rapidly expanding Red Hat estate.
There will be some out of hours work for general administration/upgrade activities. Incidents/changes/tasks are all managed with a call management system called Remedy and we follow ITIL processes in relation to change/incidents. Work on the Unix support team comprises of around 50 % production support and 50% project work. Work will comprise of new builds/upgrades/consolidation/migrations.
The Rolewill involve (but is not limited to) the following areas:
- Mid level unix administrator to work with production services team
- Working within the unix team which currently has 4 administrators
- This role involves supporting the unix infrastructure for our companies in Europe
- Support for offices based in Dublin, London, Germany
- Flavours of Unix deployed are HPUX, AIX, Red Hat.

The Person
Suitable candidates will ideally have:
- A third level computing qualification
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- The ability to work well in a team environment
- At least 3+ years unix administrator experience.
- Strong technical expertise in Unix
- Evidenced communication skills with third parties (eg in meetings with management/vendors/third parties or other teams in ETS)
- Experience working in a production support role in IT environment
- The ability to take direction and also make decisions independently
- Adherence to company rules/regulations regarding incident and change process taking ITIL standards into consideration
- Good follow through to task completion
- The ability to take ownership of issues and responsibility for same
- Enthusiasm to learn new technologies
- Willingness to work out of hours on occasion
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to think outside the box
