Description

Our client, an organisation within the Government Sector, is looking for a WebOps Engineer to join them on an initial 6 month contract outside IR35.

The role

You will be responsible for the design, automation, building and operation of significant infrastructure and application components. You will ensure compliance with any relevant requirements and quality standards. Candidates will need a depth of understanding in a range of technologies and will be able to advise on best practices.

Responsibilities:

You will lead with designing and developing infrastructure or application components - typically within an agile team - that meet user needs and quality standards by:

Taking ownership for the automation, deployment and operation of significant components within a solution with a view to ensuring the service is ready for production.

Designing and building components that are scalable, resilient, efficient, secure, cost-effective and minimise lock-in.

Working with colleagues across disciplines to deliver or maintain an operationally ready service.

Actively raising risks with both delivery and technical peers.

Demonstrating an ability to work effectively within high-pressure environments.

Contributing to commercially viable estimates and designs for technical work.

Focusing on delivering a Minimum Viable Product and then iterating.

Coaching and mentoring junior technical staff.

Comply with all confidentiality and non-disclosure policies and/or agreements and ensures security of information at all times

Skills and experience required

You know and can rationalise between different approaches to configure and manage infrastructure platforms.

The ability to contrast the use of many different cloud platforms relative to one another through personal experience.

You know how the Internet works and have strong networking skills.

The ability to deploy web services to production environments.

You appreciate at depth how Linux and/or Windows operating systems work and can perform advanced troubleshooting for the same.

You appreciate how to implement configuration management tooling

Can explain at least 1 technology in depth including testing eg Puppet, Ansible or Powershell.

You appreciate how code should be released to production as part of a Continuous Delivery pipeline.

You appreciate how to use continuous integration tooling with advanced use-cases eg Jenkins/Teamcity.

You appreciate how to utilise version control systems such as git as part of a peer review and testing process.

You can recommend and implement basic security controls for the components you lead with delivering.

You can use at least 1 Scripting language to automate tasks eg bash, python, ruby, batch, Visual Basic or powershell.
