IP Networks Manager - Falkland Islands

My client a regional telecoms company and part of an international Telecom Group is currently looking for an experienced IP Networks Manager for a long term contract role based in Stanley Falkland Islands.

The Main Purpose of Job is two-fold; 1) The operation, maintenance and optimisation of mobile network equipment. 2) Assist with day to day IP Network duties.

Principle Responsibilities Include the following:

  • Data Management of the Core GSM/UMTS/LTE networks.
  • Operation and maintenance of CS core and packet core mobile network.
  • Monitoring and reacting to network alarms.
  • Performing routing changes and signalling message tracing.
  • Upgrading and expansion of the Mobile network.
  • Operation and maintenance of Mobile backhaul networks.
  • Assisting RAN engineers with radio site management & network testing.
  • The receipt and clearing of faults to customers, network, roaming partners or hardware.
  • IREG Testing with Roaming partners.
  • The routine backup of all systems for security.
  • To undertake supervision and co-ordination of consultants, suppliers and sub-contractors working on the Mobile network.
  • Collection and Supply of Statistics & KPI's to enable quality monitoring.
  • Liaison with Other Licensed operators and vendors regarding interconnection management.
  • Supervision of lower grades, including apprentices and temporary workers.

In Addition you will be required to :

  • Provide 24 hour cover for mobile issues on a rotation basis.
  • Understand and comply with the licence and other regulatory rules applying to the position.
  • Understand and comply with any Data Protection Law as it relates to the position.
  • Understand and comply with the Health and Safety responsibilities relevant to the role as defined in the company's Safety Policy.
  • Work in accordance with the safety procedures and safe working policies of the company
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Senior IP Network Manager.
  • Computer literate, especially MS Office.

The ideal candidate will have the following Experience & Skills:

  • Three to five years' experience in telecommunication or a related industry.
  • Basic knowledge of mobile engineering including GSM/UMTS/LTE networks.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and LAN networking.
  • Must have experience with Windows based server systems.
  • Must have experience with Solaris & other UNIX based systems.
  • Knowledge and experience using Access relational databases.
  • Capable of accurate and tidy record keeping.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Capable of working without supervision.
  • Solid written and oral communication, troubleshooting, decision making, organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to display tact and diplomacy when assisting customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple, concurrent and conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills are essential to help build a good relationship with customers and to ensure a good working relationship with other departments.
  • Ability to be rational and analytical.
  • Ability to follow management procedures and processes.
  • Practically-minded.
