SQL Server DBA

Location: Atlanta, GA

Open Ended Contract (extends in 6 month increments)

W2 Contract Only

Our client in Atlanta, GA is looking for a SQL Server DBA (Production DBA) for an exciting opportunity to work with a strong team of DBAs as a Production Support DBA to support a large and dynamic group of applications to support our business.

As a SQL Server DBA will be responsible for:

Purpose:

This position interfaces closely with portfolio and business unit developers to design, implement, tune, and troubleshoot database solutions for new development projects, enhancements to existing solutions, and implementation of purchased vendor packages. A DBA ensures that proper creation, support, placement, performance, and security are in place for data. Significant coordination is required with developers and infrastructure support groups for operating system upgrades, software upgrades, migrations, and hardware replacements.

Education/Experience:

Degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
In-depth knowledge of DBMS related technologies (specifically SQL Server)

Job Responsibilities:
Develop and/or implement timely, cost-effective, and high-quality database solutions

Perform database maintenance, consisting of:

o DBMS and related software installs, upgrades and patches (including security patching)
o Logical and physical database design
o Structure modifications/schema management
o Database Reorganizations
o Space monitoring and management/Capacity planning
o Performance analysis and tuning (both at SQL and DBMS level)
o Data integrity checks and cleanup
o Database backups and recovery
o Disaster recovery
o Data Loads
o Coding, maintaining and consulting on database procedures and triggers
o Troubleshooting DBMS and related problems
o Participate in on-call duty pager rotation

Consultation on database issues and tools with internal customers and other IT groups
Build and maintain relationships with customers, peers, staff and other IT groups
Provide project activities in compliance with the approved methodologies and standards
Provide root cause analysis, efficient production support and maintenance/enhancements for existing applications
Participate in special projects/assignments
Meet schedules and estimates for assigned tasks

Job Requirements:

In-depth knowledge of SQL Server (2008R2, 2012, 2014, 2016).
Knowledge of Clustering, Log Shipping, Mirroring, and Always on a plus.
Understanding of database support for Biztalk, Sharepoint or BI (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) a plus.
Experience with database support of System Center (SCCM, SCOM) is a plus.
Understanding of typical DBMS SOX controls is a plus.
Working knowledge of Windows platform including Scripting, editors, etc.
Working knowledge and understanding of software development technologies, methodologies, and associated tools
Working knowledge of application architectures (Web, Client Server, Batch, etc.)
Working knowledge of typical IT organization and business units
