Description

A Senior Infrastructure designer required within Telco Core Mobility responsible for the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the Telco Service Virtualisation Cloud that support the core functions

This role has particular focus on the Standard Server Architecture that underpins Customer Facing Network Services.

Key Responsibilities

The role is to carry out design and planning activities to ensure sufficient SSA capacity for Services, applying proven communication, analytical and problem solving skills to the efficient introduction of capacity.

  • Design and Plan capacity uplifts to customer TSV Cloud.
  • Act as technical lead in customer TSV Cloud delivery to projects with necessary support from technical leads.
  • Review project requirements, influencing them to ensure the most effective use of the customer TSV Cloud resources.
  • Create and maintain robust design documentation that:
  • Encapsulates a technical definition of the solution
  • Integrates with designs from other domains by utilising the end-to-end Solutions functions
  • Aligns with the Network Evolution Strategy
  • Identifies system interfaces, capacity, scaling and upgrade rules for in-life expansion
  • Delivers appropriate operations and maintenance capability
  • Maintains or improves the current state of customer's end-to-end network
  • Successfully interface with the Control, Delivery and Operational communities to ensure the successful transition from Design through Delivery and to Operational Acceptance.
  • Coordinate the activities of third parties, such as vendors, outsourced partners, or parent companies, to manage the successful delivery of designed solutions.
  • Act as a technical design authority, with enduring ownership of one or more components within a technical domain. This includes:
  • Management of software and/or hardware roadmaps
  • Leading project focused and ongoing technical engagements with the vendors
  • Anticipating and planning for software and/or hardware end of life
  • Lead specifically identified inputs to Procurement/Sourcing processes, such as vendor management, vendor selection activities and supporting RFQs.
  • Develop and maintain a level of technical expertise, knowledge of current best practice so as to act as a domain expert.
  • Provide 3rd line support to the Operations teams.

Essential Skills

  • Good understanding of X86 compute and SAN
  • Track record working with VMWare product suite
  • Proven experience with Linux, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux derivatives
  • Proven experience in WIndows Based Server support
  • Experience in a mobile/fixed telecommunications industry in the role of a designer of business-critical, high-availability/high-throughput systems
  • Knowledge of Red Hat Satellite 5/6
  • Experience in delivering automated virtualised Linux server builds.
  • Use of products like Puppet, Ansible
