Unix and Storage Technical Support Specialist

3 to 6 month contract

Our client is a world leader in supporting large complex IT service delivery outsourcing contracts. This leadership depends on delivering excellent IT services and successfully adding value to their customer businesses. Helping clients to realign their IT strategies in order to help them make the best use of technology platforms and create new business opportunities.

To support these objectives we continue to develop and recruit the very best people who run service and operations functions in our outsourcing businesses. We are looking for a candidate to provide deep technical support for Servers running Redhat Enterprise Linux 6/7, HPUX and 3PAR storage arrays.

Description

Successful candidate will be required to be part of a shared service team providing service to a number of customers. As part of this team the candidate will require to become part of an on-call roster and to be available to work afterhours.

Key responsibilities are:

  • To deliver a support service in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
  • This will encompass:
    • Incident resolution,
    • Problem determination,
    • Root cause analysis.
  • To contribute to and develop the expertise of the team and to share it with the other support teams
  • To take part in projects linked to Service Quality Improvement and Business growth.
  • To represent the Unix and Storage team and be one of the main linkage with other teams and Service Providers.

Qualification

  • Redhat/HPUX troubleshooting methodology: Certification an advantage
  • Experience supporting Storage Arrays and SAN Switches

  • Strong technical knowledge in:
    • Performance monitoring tools,
    • Unix/Linux Server administration,
    • Server architecture including HP Blade systems and interconnects,
    • Linux Server installation and configuration,
    • Scripting - Shell, Perl, Python
    • SCSI and Storage technology - Good theory & hands on knowledge;
    • Networking - TCP/IP
    • Managing discs and logical partitions
    • Redhat Cluster Services/Serviceguard
    • Hadoop Data analytics administration
    • Storage array and SAN switch management - upgrades, reporting, analysing performance issues

  • Knowledge/Experience in any of the following areas would be an advantage:
    • Networking
    • 3PAR Peer Persistence
    • Vmware SRM failover
    • HP Blade Enclosures

  • Excellent communication skill: Oral and written - English
  • Customer and service orientation
  • Ability to operate well in an international environment
  • ITSM knowledge
  • Bachelor's or undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications such as Redhat, HPUX, HPE Storage, Hadooop, Cisco or similar certifications would be preferred.
  • Extensive previous Tech Support experience.
  • Must possess very good experience with various computer peripherals and applications.
  • Must possess very strong problem solving and resolution experience.
  • Must be very customer oriented and focused on meeting the customer's needs.
  • Must have very good verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience in telephone and/or hands-on application, desktop, network and/or database support of both internal and external customers.
  • Experience in installation and configuration of PCs, Servers, hardware, software, etc.
  • Desirable experience in project delivery.
  • Leadership qualities: Integrity, attention to detail, timeline sensitive, goal oriented.
