Description

Main duties of the position

To undertake Mechanical engineering activities for assigned projects

Key responsibilities

  • Leading on all aspects of mechanical design
  • Providing expertise at embryonic design stages in order to shape new innovative, cost effective safety critical equipment with particular emphasis on Size Weight and Power (SWAP).
  • Design and delivery of complex mechanical housings.
  • Folded metal fabrications.
  • Heat shrink design and thermal analysis.
  • Cable assembly design and manufacturing drawings.
  • Gasket design
  • Advising on end user installation and related matters.
  • Authoring product assembly drawings and instructions.
  • Compiling and managing of bills of materials.
  • Liaising with/management of suppliers and contractors.
  • Lead the transition of mechanical designs into manufacture
  • Lead on the system installation design
  • Other related tasks, as and when required.
  • Maintain relevant documentation (requirements, design, test, interface, manuals)
  • Customer support and liaison (some international travel may be required)

Essential skills

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or closely related subject
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical design
  • Expert in the use of Solidworks
  • Experience in thermal and environmental modelling
  • Experience in the design of metal enclosures
  • Design for test, cost and manufacture
  • Eligible for SC clearance

Desirable skills

  • Electronics
  • Knowledge of radio systems
  • Vehicle installation design
  • Experience of defining and executing formal qualification testing such as EMC, environmental, safety testing in line with Def-Stans, Mil-STD, ISO etc.
  • SC cleared
