Software Configuration Engineer

Our client supplies Terminal Operating System (for container terminals) to ports worldwide. This software is originally implemented on an IBMi stack (RPG/C/Java), and is managed as a product suite (thus several products with a strict SDLC)

The redevelopment track to a new technical stack (WebSphere App Server + DB2 on IBMi), will slowly replace individual applications of the existing portfolio.

For this redevelopment, our client uses several outsourcing partners in Asia, as well as internal development teams and contractors in Antwerp and Singapore.

Role:

The role of the Configuration Engineer is to provision the environments to manage the application life cycle of software developed by multiple outsourcing partners. Extending tools to support these actions is part of the assignment.

The engineer will become part of the Software Administration team, that currently governs the packaging and delivery of products of the existing suite.

Tasks:

Provision environments for the different renovation projects, on Infrastructure in Antwerp and subsequently Singapore

- Intake, Test, Integration

- Integration with the development setup of the outsourcing partners

Streamline tooling with tools for the current TOS Suite, which is governed by the Software Administration Team.

GTOS Infrastructure project: collaborate on the environments on the infrastructure in Singapore

Improve the configuration management procedures and processes

Technical Skills:

Skillsets are best described as the skills needed for a Devops- engineer

Broad Technical Background

  • Operating Systems: Linux/AIX/IBMi
  • JEE application Servers: preferably WebSphere
  • Developer skills: eg. Java
  • Scripting skills: eg. Jython

Additional areas that might be beneficial

  • Automation tooling experience
  • Continuous Integration Tools (Jenkins)

Other Skills:

Training skills

  • Assist in knowledge transfer towards the current members of the SWADMIN team
  • Communication Skills

Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in software product and/or multi-team application/Middleware configuration, (like a devops engineer)
  • Working on remotely-located infrastructure
  • Some exposure to multi-cultural working environment
