My client, the market leader in their chosen field are looking to add to their ever growing team. Specifically, they require a Release Manager to join them on a permanent basis with an immediate start. Please see below..
Purpose & Objectives of the Role

Key Outcomes/Measures:

Approved programmes/projects delivered in-line with the latest agreed parameters of scope, quality, time scale and cost
Contribution to continuous improvement of Release Management, Environment Management, and associated governance processes
Support for other team members to achieve release goals (teamwork)

Role Summary:

You will own the Release Management lifecycle which includes scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases across the organisation for multiple applications across various programmes. The releases can be inclusive of application updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades, Projects and Programs. Where necessary you'll provides tools and services to help product management and project teams manage and deploy releases into initially pre-production and then production.
You will be responsible for implementing and managing release processes for code through development, test, and production environments. The Release Scheduler Job function works collaboratively with all participants in software development projects and is supportive of developers and testers as they set up their build dev/test environments.
This position also works with IT management to improve the software engineering processes and practices associated with continuously building, deploying, and updating software and environments.
The Release Scheduler responsibilities also include building the IT Release Calendar in working closely with the IT project managers from different programmes across IT and centralizing view of all releases.
Leads the effort of defining the IT strategic direction for release management tools for IT to ensure the process requirements of release management are built in. The Release Manager will assist in managing projects and interdependencies to ensure milestone adherence to ensure the integrity of the release can be measured.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations
Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including dependencies, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes
Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams
Support Release Readiness reviews, Milestone Reviews, and Business Go/No-Go reviews
Weekly Release Reporting
Communicate release details and schedules to the Business as required
Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities

Outcome 3 - Consumers are provided with clear information and kept appropriately informed before, during and after the point of sale
Outcome 4 - Where consumers receive advice, the advice is suitable and takes account of their circumstances
Outcome 5 - Consumers are provided with products that perform as firms have led them to expect, and the associated service is of an acceptable standard and as they have been led to expect
Outcome 6 - Consumers do not face unreasonable post-sale barriers imposed by firms to change product, switch provider, submit a claim or make a complaint

Successfully delivering projects through a virtual team of cross-discipline (applications, infrastructure, operations) 'supply' teams some of which are internal, some of which are outsourced/off-shored to a strategic partner (managed directly by the partner's Delivery Manager) and some of which could come from other 3rd party IT suppliers (total pool of circa 70) requiring matrix management techniques/skills built on a foundation of traditional team motivation/management/building techniques/skills
Experience in waterfall, agile & iterative methodologies covering full life cycle
Strong inter-personal skills in both a group and one-to-one settings
Strong communication planning and delivery skills to all levels
The ability to instil confidence and buy-in from cross disciplinary stakeholders when delivering bad news as well as good
Excellent presentation skills

Technical:

Experience of portfolio management processes
Experience of the whole project life cycle encompassing both technology and business change projects
Experience of Programme Management processes
Experience of agile, iterative and waterfall software development methodologies
Excellent MS Project (Scheduling) & Office tools
Experience of software testing and quality management methods and practises
Experience of optimising processes/outcomes working with outsourced and off-shored globally distributed technology delivery teams motivated to create effective and motivated joint-teams
Experience of managing IT partner/supplier services
Project management qualification (Prince2, PMP or similar).

Functional:

Experience managing portfolios and delivering programmes/projects in a business transformation situation particularly regarding transformation to, or green field set-up of, digital/on-line/customer self-service business models e.g. internet start-up and underpinning leading edge technologies
