Mechanical Technician
Shoeburyness
6 month initial contract
Specific Responsibilities
You will perform the duties of a multi-skilled technician at Shoeburyness and Foulness Island supporting the repair and maintenance activities associated to heavy process plant and equipment; servicing, fabrication and manufacturing parts/assemblies to supporting the site activities and differing work areas. This role could also require occasional working from alternative UK QinetiQ sites.
Key Knowledge, skills
- Be able to maintain process plant and equipment both mechanically and electrically
- Be able to respond to breakdowns and diagnose faults of plant and equipment then repair
- Be able to fabricate parts/assemblies using various hand tools (powered and non-powered) and sheetmetal equipment, welding and oxy-acetylene equipment.
- Be able to work from maintenance manuals and/or engineering drawings and within specified limits and use measuring equipment
Challenges
- Meeting tight time lines and schedules.
- Working outdoors in challenging conditions for fitting and maintenance activities
Key Accountabilities
- Carry out reactive, preventative and planned mechanical maintenance of plant and equipment
- Responding to plant breakdowns and diagnosing faults of plant and equipment
- Carry out the manufacture/fabrication of component parts and/or assemblies to support range activities
- Install component parts and/or assemblies to support range activities
- Modify component parts and/or assemblies to support range activities
- Maintain maintenance records
- To support team members with other tasks when necessary
- To help create and maintain a safe working environment including a high standard of housekeeping is maintained
- Complete and/or update risk assessment associated with the activities within the role
- Keep up-to-date electronic records for asset management and maintenance schedules
- To contribute in continuous improvement activities
- To carry out any other task where reasonable and relevant either at the Shoeburyness site or other UK sites

Essential Qualifications
- Apprenticeship or similar vocational training
