Our client is seeking SAS System Administrator

Job Summary

This position will ensure that the SAS (Statistical Analysis System) environment at our client is optimized for the efficient processing and delivery of analytic deliverables across the user base.

The Administrator will assist in the planning, coordination, provisioning and implementation of various analytic initiatives within a distributed environment, while troubleshooting system related problems and being accountable for the overall availability of the SAS products.

This individual will also develop and automate SAS programs to effectively leverage our complex data environment. This individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of a roadmap for the ongoing SAS product usage as well as the growth in the availability of new datasets.

This individual will establish best practices and build relationships with both SAS representatives and our client's technical resources.

Must be able to effectively communicate technical briefings to applicable support staff, developers and members of the management team.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall availability of SAS tools and software environments.
  • Administer, maintain and tune the SAS Platform including SAS Visual Analytics
  • Executes actions necessary to achieve and maintain optimum SAS platform performance, reliability and availability.
  • Acts as a SAS subject matter expert and liaison to SAS users and other stakeholders.
  • Serves as an escalation point for production and/or platform issues and acts as lead liaison with SAS Technical Support to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Collaborates with storage, server, LDAP, database and other IT administrators to support ongoing operations for meeting the business needs via the SAS environment.
  • Manages provisioning for all SAS tools and environments, including but not limited to metadata identities, users, groups, and roles.
  • Ensures the platform is positioned for compliance with our client's IT policies and standards and agreed upon service levels.
  • Makes wise decisions regarding prioritization of work assignments. Ability to manage multiple work assignments and appropriately prioritize responsibilities.

Knowledge

  • Hands-on experience as a SAS administrator of the 9.x suite in a Windows and Linux environment performing system monitoring, log analysis, performance analysis, performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Experience in troubleshooting SAS Platform and client issues along with performing root cause analysis.
  • Understand basic commands necessary to monitor SAS jobs, ability to move around in a Windows and Linux environment as required for basic functioning of SAS as well as a functional understanding of how the operating system and SAS are integrated.
  • Advanced knowledge of Base SAS programming, SQL programming (ie, use of SQL pass-through or PROC SQL), as well as the SAS Macro language for use in understanding current code and development of additional analytic solutions
  • Ability to derive SAS Metadata content and articulate the advantages/benefits of SAS Metadata content throughout the organization.
  • Thorough understanding of SAS products and how they function together in a distributed environment.
  • Knowledgeable of SAS data source connectivity to the following architectures: Hadoop, Oracle, SQL Server.
  • Demonstrable understanding of predictive analytics, data quality, data wrangling and data management concepts.
  • Understanding of server security and folder structure and how they relate to SAS folders and security.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline required
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • SAS Certification preferred

Experience

  • 5 years as a SAS System Administrator
  • Advanced knowledge of Base SAS programming, SQL programming (ie, use of SQL pass-through or PROC SQL), as well as the SAS Macro language for use in understanding current code and development of additional analytic solutions
  • Experience using SAS Management Console (SMC).
  • Creating Users. Groups and Roles.
  • Creating and securing folders.
  • Experience monitoring Logs from within SMC.
  • Experience defining Servers and changing server definitions.
  • Experience creating SAS, RDBMS libraries.
  • Server Skills.
  • Understanding server security and folders and how they relate to SAS folders and security.
  • Knowledge of SAS configuration files such as autoexec, configuration and environment files.
  • Starting and stopping Servers.
  • Security and Authentication (related to the access of source data within SAS on the SAS Servers across the different business organizations as well as SAS integration with tools such as Active Directory/LDAP/) across multiple SAS products.
  • SAS/Access products and configuring to connect RDBMS Servers.
  • SAS/Enterprise Guide.
  • SAS/Enterprise Miner.
  • SAS/BASE, IML, STAT, ETS.
  • SAS/GRID.
  • SAS Visual Analytics/HPA Server.
