Windows Engineer/VMware/HPE Blade/Doubletake/Zerto/Ansible Tower/PowerCLI/Data Center
This role is a part of highly technical international engineering team which works on the design, implementation, and execution of infrastructure platform projects. The primary project for this role will be a datacenter insourcing project that moves 10 important enterprise applications from a managed services provider into our on-premise datacenters.
The candidate will be working in a multi-disciplinary project team based across Europe but primarily in Amsterdam, Netherlands and Gda sk, Poland. Candidate must have experience working in international teams and be able to deal with different cultures and ways of communicating. Preferably the candidate has experience in insourcing and/or provider disengagements and so will be familiar with the demands of dealing with the delicate situation around the outgoing provider.
Practically the project includes all activities surrounding new hardware builds, P2V, V2V and data migrations depending on application requirements. We expect the hardware vendor to handle most of the racking, stacking and cabling inside the datacenter but candidate should expect to be asked to do hands-on work as well and must have experience in that area.
The prospective candidate's focus will be on:
- Building out a new hardware platform based primarily on HPE and VMware technologies in our twin datacenters in The Netherlands
- Install & configure VMware platform and add it to existing VCSA solution
- Install & configure of new application/database Servers (Windows Server 2)
- (Data) migration using DoubleTake and/or Zerto
- Supporting the application teams in getting their applications deployed onto the new hardware
- Defining and writing updated DR runbooks
- Configuring infrastructure with Ansible
- Windows domain changes (and possible consequences on GPO's)
- Re-IP of migrated machines (and consequences on Firewall rules) etc.
- Implementing the DR runbook in the DR automation tool(s)
- Assisting with implementation of the new Servers
- Adding solution to backup & updating CMDB
- Aligning with Security and Connectivity teams
- Representing the project in weekly CAB meetings if necessary
Hard skills: study, experience, some kind of training?
We are looking for a self-starting and goal-oriented team member. A team player able to prioritize work, learn new concepts quickly and juggle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with building and maintaining Windows & VMware Infrastructures
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with application and datacenter migrations, preferably in an insourcing situation.
- Must be flexible and skillful enough to deal with unexpected changes in scope, work, focus.
- Must understand and be able to communicate network requirements for the server infrastructure that is being deployed.
- Experience with ITIL (Change, Incident and Problem Management) Processes is a plus
- Windows administrator skills
- VMware ESX 6+ administrator skills
- Configuration Management/Automation skills is a plus (Ansible Tower/PowerCLI)
- Fluent in English
- Willingness/Ability to travel within Netherlands (datacenters are in Aalsmeer/Eindhoven)
- Willingness/Ability to travel within the EU (source datacenters are in France and Netherlands, project team is primarily based out of Amsterdam - Netherlands and Gdansk - Poland)
