Metro Field Support Technician

Description

• 3 + years' experience of troubleshooting, installing, commissioning and testing a wide variety of telecom and network equipment, including DWDM and several routers and switches, as well as all associated fiber and space or power infrastructure in POP or DC environments
• Profound background of Data Center and POP infrastructure along with OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, AC/DC power systems, fiber and copper distribution, relay rack, cabinet or cage construction and environmental controls
• Expertise with all telecommunications testing equipment from scopes and sources and power meters to the different OTDR, BER, and IP capable test sets
• Competency of all data center site safety standards and data center environment
• Know How of logical inventories like Netcracker or Granite and expertise in reading fiber or duct tables, blueprints and CAD drawings
• Competent handling of spreadsheets, administrative software applications as well as workflow and project management applications
• Languages: fluent English both written and spoken

• Supporting all assigned locations, including Points of Presence, data centers and physical site services
• Managing Network Teams and local vendors for repair, installation and maintenance activities coupled with ensuring the highest quality standards in all assigned data center locations and remote POPs
• Generating card adds or replacements, associated testing and software upgrades
• Delivering site survey support for OSP and ISP projects as well as large space and power or equipment deployments
• Reconciling data discrepancies in coordination with Network Surveillance and other groups including performing site audits
• Collaborating with Local Exchange Carrier and other technicians to facilitate timely installation, repair, and maintenance activities
• Providing support in coordinating site access and equipment staging as well as performing site surveys to assist network builds, augments or decommissions
