Description

Dev Ops Engineer urgently required for our Manchester based Central Government client on a 6 month initial contract + extensions (Outside IR35).

Your responsibilities will include operational management of Linux servers, delivering a complex web application stack whilst building and configuring new server platforms and the automated tooling to do so. You will be testing, debugging and troubleshooting of platform level problems, making sure to supporting development teams with configuring applications for deployment. You will be using Configuration management tools like Puppet, Chef. You will also be responsible for deploying and configuring machines in a Cloud environment, whilst also taking control of installation and management of open source monitoring tools. You will also be responsible for the application deployment strategies and continuous integration.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience configuring web and application servers and possess a fundamental understanding of Linux. Previous experience in building and supporting a large production platform would be ideal. You will have a passion for and ability to design and support robust build, deployment and configuration management systems for multi-tier Java J2EE & .Net applications. You will also have experience with continuous integration tools (Jenkins, Travis-CI, Go) as well as administering application servers, servlet containers, and web servers (WebSphere, Apache Tomcat, Jetty, Nginx, Mongrel, Microsoft IIS, Apache HTTP server, etc). Some experience with unit testing and automated testing tools is also essential. You will have working knowledge of virtualization systems (VMWare, Xen, etc) and cloud computing (EC2, Google App Engine, etc). You must have an understanding of networking concepts, technologies, and protocols (TCP/IP, IPSec, HTTP, FTP, DHCP, and DNS). An understanding of common web application architectures and experience in configuring and managing Linux servers for serving a dynamic website is also essential. Lastly, you will have experience in debugging a complex multi-server service and be familiar with network protocols - TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, etc.
