Duration: 12 months contract with extension

Short Description:

Candidate technical background:

  • z/VM technical background with Unix/Linux knowledge.
  • Experience supporting production z/VM workloads using zLinux Operating system.
  • Technical knowledge around troubleshooting guest performance and capacity planning across multiple LPARs across multiple physical Mainframe is required.

Daily job responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the z/VM and z/VM components (RACF, DIRMAINT, Operations
  • Manager) installation, administration, configuration, security, customization, performance tuning
  • and troubleshooting.
  • Heavy interaction with Linux system administrators and Middleware (WebSphere Application Server etc.) system administrators.
  • Responsible for zVM guest provisioning and driving technology roadmaps for z/VM.

SYSTEM(S) THE CONTRACTOR WILL INTERACT WITH/BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • This position will interact with technical areas ranging from Linux administration, z/OS team,
  • Database support teams and Hardware operations group.
  • Heavy interactions with architects and capacity planning group will be required.

PRIMARY WORKING RELATIONSHIP(S) INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE ORGANIZATION:

  • Primary working relationship will be technical in nature and LOB application support areas will be closely communicated with, along with other infrastructure support areas.
  • The levels of management to be communicated is mainly Managers or Directors.

WORKING HOURS/CONDITIONS:

  • On-site work is required. NO REMOTE WORK.
  • Will be part of on-call rotation.
  • At least one Sunday of the month team the team works on-site for system maintenance, usually 2nd Sunday.
  • Weekend work may be required for system support.
  • Work after-hours is expected as needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • 25% -Diagnose, isolate, and debug software problems and perform problem resolution. Identify issues that the vendor is responsible for and refer those issues appropriately.
  • 20% - Review and design system software and hardware builds analyzing system options and the impact on the overall systems infrastructure. Develop and document the framework for integration and implementation for changes to technical standards.
  • 20% - Coordinate installation, testing, and maintenance of systems software. Schedule system downtime in a way that minimizes user impact.
  • 10% - Review customer requests, security patches, and audit requirements for additions or changes to systems, and evaluate feasibility to determine if/how to handle the request while maintaining an adequate/appropriate overall systems infrastructure. To determine if requested changes are possible, review system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations.
  • 10% - Provide technical guidance to project team areas as appropriate. May evaluate vendor-supplied software packages make recommendations to IT management. In coordination with Project Leads and senior level staff, provide input proposals that could potentially impact systems.
  • 10% - Assist in the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions across the enterprise.
  • 5% - Provide technical and disaster recovery support for systems software.
