Splunk Engineer

Remote based - Occasional travel to Slough

3 Month Contract

£475 per day (Inside IR35)

My client are looking for a Splunk Engineer with experience with data, logs and how to use/interpret it for service level indicators)

As an experienced Splunk Engineer, you will help us ensure the reliability of our production systems. You will enhance our monitoring and alerting capabilities using a range of tools. You will implement innovative solutions to automate incident responses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Able to perform the required day to day tasks but also feedback on gaps found (taking control/leadership)
  • Perform analysis of setups and implementation within the Splunk environment and improve how they work
  • Able to script and automate within the Splunk system
  • Scripting experience required - ideally Python or JavaScript but will accept others
  • Able to log and investigate issues within Splunk
  • Manage alerts upon investigation, process and how they communicate (best practice)
  • Implementing standards and what sort of standards those might be.
  • Build and enhance our monitoring and alerting capability using our tool of choice, Splunk.
  • Implement innovative solutions to automate incident response and workflows
  • Make improvement recommendations based drawing on your experience as an SRE
  • Enhance our 24/7 on call capability
  • Help define logging/monitoring requirements for new applications/features

Key Skills/Experience

  • Cloud services platforms: AWS most common services
  • Strong knowledge of GIT/Github tools
  • Strong knowledge of IT Service Management principles
  • Good understanding of Information Security and related
  • You will have experience working with Scrum and Kanban Agile methodologies
  • This role requires strong hands on experience with Splunk Enterprise/Cloud advanced features
  • Proficient in Scripting and programming languages eg PHP, Python, Java, GoLang, SQL, HTML
  • An understanding of container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of basic TCP/IP protocols (TCP, UDP, IP, DNS, HTTP)
  • Experience implementing automation using a mixture bespoke software/off the shelf products (such as Splunk).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools eg Jenkins
  • Troubleshooting in complex environments using the monitoring tools with a strong attention to detail
